This includes checking fluid levels (oil, water, hydraulic), inspecting tyres for damage, ensuring all controls and safety features function, and confirming the machine's overall condition. Understand how to monitor the dumper while it’s in operation. This involves listening for unusual noises, checking gauges for regular readings (temperature, pressure), and observing the machine’s performance to spot any issues early.
Learn how to prepare the dumper for movement around a construction site. This includes ensuring the machine is properly set up for manoeuvring on uneven surfaces and adjusting settings for site-specific conditions. Understand the requirements for safely travelling on public roads, including securing loads, checking that lights and signals are operational, and ensuring the dumper meets road safety regulations.
Learn how to safely drive the dumper uphill with and without a load, including techniques to prevent tipping. Understand how to descend steep slopes safely, maintaining control and stability to avoid accidents.
Learn how to correctly position the dumper to align with loading equipment, such as cranes or loaders, ensuring safe and efficient loading. Understand and follow the correct steps for loading materials into the dumper. This includes ensuring proper alignment, avoiding overloading, and securing the load to prevent spillage.
Learn how to safely dump materials into trenches, ensuring even distribution and avoiding damage to surrounding areas. Practice safely dumping materials over edges or barriers, considering load spread and control factors.
Learn the steps to properly prepare the dumper for operation, including starting procedures and system checks. Learn how to safely shut down and secure the dumper to prevent unauthorised use or potential hazards.
Learn about the specific duties of a plant operator, including safety responsibilities, operational standards, and how your role fits into the larger project. Name and explain the purpose of principal components, the basic construction, controls, and terminology.
Identify and understand the main parts of the dumper, such as the engine, hydraulic system, and dump mechanism. Learn about the dumper’s structure and how its design affects operation. Get familiar with the various controls used to operate the dumper and the technical terms associated with it.
