What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also known as the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for individuals whose FAW certification is about to expire. Completing this course in Leyland allows you to renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for another three years.
Unlike the full three-day programme, this refresher focuses on refreshing your essential skills and knowledge, providing an opportunity to practice under the supervision of an assessor. This ensures that you remain fully compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance.
✅ This course is available to those with a valid FAW certificate or those within the grace period (typically up to 28 days after expiry).
Eligibility & When to Book
To enrol in this 2-day FAW renewal course, you must already hold a valid FAW certificate. We recommend booking your place before your certification expires to avoid taking the full 3-day FAW course.
There is a 28-day grace period after expiry. If your certificate has expired longer than this, you will need to complete the full FAW course again.
For attendance, please bring proof of your current or recently expired FAW certificate on the first day of the course.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
During the FAW Requalification in Leyland, you will revisit the entire First Aid at Work syllabus to ensure your skills are up to date. Over the 2 days, you will practice essential first aid skills required of every workplace first aider.
- Understanding the responsibilities of a first aider and infection control procedures
- Scene safety and casualty assessment techniques
- Adult CPR and AED practical training
- How to assist someone in the recovery position and manage seizures
- Providing first aid for choking and severe bleeding
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Managing fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Care for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis using auto-injectors
- Responding to heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The assessment for the First Aid at Work Refresher course in Leyland includes a mix of practical demonstrations, trainer observation, and a short multiple-choice test. This ensures you can confidently apply the skills you refreshed during the course.
Upon successful completion, you will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for three more years and recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
There is often confusion between the annual refresher and the First Aid at Work Requalification. The annual refresher is a short course for practising your skills, but it does not renew your certificate.
To formally renew your qualification, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This course is the only one that officially extends your First Aid at Work qualification for an additional 3 years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher course is aimed at appointed first aiders in medium- to high-risk workplaces, including construction sites, factories, warehouses, and large offices. It is ideal for those looking to update their qualifications and remain compliant with HSE regulations.
