What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also known as the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for those whose FAW certification is nearing its expiry. By completing this First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Stratford, you can extend your Level 3 FAW qualification for an additional three years.
Unlike the full three-day course, this refresher programme focuses on refreshing your knowledge and giving you the chance to rehearse key skills, while you are assessed by a qualified instructor. It ensures your compliance with the latest Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
✅ This course is available to you if you currently hold a valid FAW certificate or are within the grace period following its expiration (usually up to 28 days).
Eligibility & When to Book
To enrol in this 2-day First Aid at Work renewal course, you must already possess a valid FAW certificate. We recommend booking your place before your current certification expires to avoid the need to undertake the full 3-day First Aid at Work course again.
If your certification has expired, you can still take the course within a 28-day grace period. However, if the certificate has lapsed for more than this period, you will need to retake the complete FAW course.
On the first day of training, you will be required to present proof of your existing or recently expired FAW certificate.
What Will You Refresh/Practice During the Course?
By attending the FAW Requalification course in Stratford, you will revisit the entire First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring your knowledge is refreshed and your certification remains valid. Over the two days, you will practice key skills required for any workplace first aider.
- Responding to heart attack, stroke, asthma, diabetes, and epilepsy
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis using auto-injectors
- Managing fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Adult CPR and AED practice
- Recovery position and managing seizures
- Handling choking and severe bleeding situations
- Eye injury care and suspected poisoning treatments
- Scene surveys and casualty assessment
- First aider responsibilities and infection control procedures
Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher course in Stratford is assessed through a combination of hands-on practical demonstrations, direct observation by the trainer, and a brief multiple-choice examination. This ensures that you are fully capable of applying the skills you’ve practised throughout the course.
Upon successful completion, you will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for another three years and fully compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) standards.
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
The annual refresher course is often confused with the FAW Requalification course. While the annual refresher is a short session designed to keep your skills sharp each year, it does not renew your certificate.
If your certificate is nearing expiry, the only way to extend your First Aid at Work qualification is by completing the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This course formally renews your certification for another three years.
Who Is the Course For?
The 2-day FAW Refresher course is intended for designated first aiders working in medium- to high-risk environments such as construction sites, factories, warehouses, and larger office spaces. This course is for individuals needing to renew their qualification and ensure ongoing compliance with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
