What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also referred to as the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day training programme designed for those with an expiring FAW certificate. By completing this course in Salford, you will extend your Level 3 FAW qualification for an additional three years.
Unlike the comprehensive three-day course, the refresher is focused on updating your first aid knowledge and giving you hands-on experience under the guidance of an instructor. It ensures you remain fully compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) standards.
✅ This course is available if your FAW certificate is still valid or within the 28-day grace period following its expiry.
Eligibility & When to Book
To enrol in the 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher course, you must already hold a valid FAW certificate. It is advisable to book your spot before your current qualification expires to prevent the need to retake the full 3-day First Aid at Work course.
If your certificate has expired, you have a 28-day grace period in which you can still attend the refresher course. After this period, you will need to complete the full FAW course again.
Don’t forget to bring proof of your current or recently expired FAW certificate with you on the first day of training.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
During the 2-day FAW Requalification course in Salford, you’ll refresh your knowledge across the full First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring your skills are up to date. This course covers essential first aid skills that are required in the workplace.
- First aider duties and infection control measures
- Assessing the scene and evaluating casualties
- CPR and AED practice for adults
- Placing casualties in the recovery position and managing seizures
- Responding to choking and severe bleeding
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and other minor injuries
- Managing fractures and injuries to the head, spine, and chest
- First aid for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis using auto-injectors
- Providing emergency care for heart attacks, strokes, seizures, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The assessment for the First Aid at Work Refresher in Salford involves practical demonstrations, observation by the trainer, and a brief multiple-choice test. This combination ensures you can confidently use the refreshed skills in real-life scenarios.
Once you successfully complete the course, you will be awarded a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, which will remain valid for another three years and is fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
It’s easy to confuse the annual refresher with the First Aid at Work Requalification. The annual refresher is a short course designed to help you practise key skills, but it does not renew your certification.
To renew your certificate, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only option for officially renewing your First Aid at Work qualification for an additional three years.
Who Is the Course For?
The 2-day FAW Refresher course is tailored for designated first aiders working in medium- to high-risk environments, such as construction sites, manufacturing plants, warehouses, and large office spaces. It is intended for individuals who need to update their qualification and stay in line with HSE compliance requirements.
