What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also known as FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course for those whose FAW certification is about to expire. By completing this First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Nottingham, you will renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for an additional three years.
In contrast to the comprehensive three-day programme, this refresher focuses on refreshing your knowledge and giving you the opportunity to practice core first aid techniques under the guidance of a qualified assessor. It ensures that you remain fully compliant with the latest Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
✅ You can enrol in this course if your FAW certificate is still valid, or if it has expired within the grace period (usually up to 28 days).
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher course is available only to individuals who currently hold a valid FAW certificate. It’s recommended to book your spot before your existing certification expires to avoid the need to retake the full 3-day First Aid at Work course.
A 28-day grace period is provided after your certificate expires. If your certification has expired for more than 28 days, you will need to complete the full FAW course again.
On the first day of training, please ensure you bring a copy of your valid or recently expired FAW certificate as proof of eligibility.
What Will You Review and Practice During the Course?
By enrolling in the FAW Requalification course in Nottingham, you will revisit the complete First Aid at Work curriculum, ensuring your knowledge is up to date and your certification stays valid. During this 2-day course, you will focus on essential skills that every workplace first aider should be proficient in.
- Roles and responsibilities of a first aider, including infection control measures
- Assessing the scene and evaluating casualties
- Practising adult CPR and using an AED effectively
- Managing the recovery position and handling seizures
- Providing first aid for choking and controlling severe bleeding
- Responding to shock, burns, scalds, and minor wounds
- Managing fractures and injuries to the head, spine, and chest
- Providing care for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Recognising anaphylaxis and administering auto-injectors
- Responding appropriately to heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The assessment for the First Aid at Work Refresher course in Nottingham comprises practical demonstrations, trainer observations, and a brief multiple-choice questionnaire. This comprehensive approach ensures you can apply the skills you’ve reviewed confidently in real-life scenarios.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for three more years. This certification is fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
There is often confusion between the annual refresher and the First Aid at Work Requalification course. The annual refresher is a shorter course designed to help you practice your skills each year, but it does not extend your certificate’s validity.
If your certificate is nearing its expiry, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only course that will formally extend your First Aid at Work certification for another three years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher course is aimed at designated first aiders in workplaces with medium to high-risk environments, such as construction sites, manufacturing plants, warehouses, and large office spaces. It is specifically for those who need to update their certification and maintain compliance with the HSE’s regulations.
