What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also known as the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course for learners whose existing FAW certificate is nearing its expiry. By attending our First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Whitechapel, you can renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for a further three years.
Rather than repeating the full three-day syllabus, this refresher concentrates on bringing your knowledge up to date and giving you structured time to practise core first aid techniques with support from an assessor. It also helps you stay aligned with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance for workplace first aid.
✅ You can take this course if you still hold a valid FAW certificate or you are within the short grace period after it expires (usually up to 28 days).
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher is designed for learners who already hold a FAW certificate and need to renew it before it expires. To remain qualified without repeating the full 3-day course, it’s best to book your refresher course place before your expiry date.
If your certificate has already expired, you can usually still enrol within the 28-day grace period. If it has lapsed beyond that window, you’ll need to complete the full First Aid at Work course again.
On day one, please bring evidence of your current (or recently expired) FAW certificate to confirm your eligibility at the start of training.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
On our FAW Requalification in Whitechapel, you’ll revisit the full First Aid at Work syllabus to refresh your knowledge, rebuild confidence, and keep your qualification valid. Across two days, you’ll practise the core techniques every workplace first aider is expected to use.
- Carrying out a primary survey and assessing a casualty
- Roles, responsibilities, and safe working practices for first aiders
- Infection prevention, hygiene, and using protective equipment
- Adult CPR techniques and using an AED safely
- Managing an unconscious casualty and placing someone in the recovery position
- Responding to seizures and providing ongoing care until help arrives
- Dealing with choking and managing severe bleeding
- Recognising and treating shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Handling fractures and suspected head, spinal, chest, and soft tissue injuries
- Managing eye injuries, suspected poisoning, and exposure incidents
- Recognising anaphylaxis and using auto-injectors correctly
- Responding to medical emergencies, including heart attack, stroke, asthma, epilepsy, diabetes, and related conditions
Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher in Whitechapel is assessed using a combination of practical demonstrations, trainer observation, and a short multiple-choice test. This approach checks that you can apply the refreshed techniques correctly and respond confidently in real workplace situations.
Once you successfully complete the course, you’ll receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate. It is valid for a further three years and is fully recognised in line with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance.
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
Many learners assume the annual refresher and the FAW Requalification are the same thing, but they serve different purposes. The annual refresher is a short session that helps you practise key skills and keep knowledge fresh during the year; however, it does not renew your qualification.
If your certificate is nearing expiry, the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) is the option you’ll need. It’s the formal route to renew your First Aid at Work qualification for another three-year period.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher is intended for appointed workplace first aiders who operate in medium- to high-risk environments. It suits roles where incidents are more likely — such as busy sites, operational settings, storage and distribution, manufacturing, or larger office teams — and is aimed at anyone who needs to keep their qualification current and remain compliant with HSE expectations.
