What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, often referred to as the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for individuals whose FAW certification is nearing expiration. By completing this First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Romford, you will extend your Level 3 FAW qualification for an additional three years.
In contrast to the full three-day programme, this refresher course concentrates on renewing your knowledge and providing hands-on practice with key skills, all under the guidance of an experienced assessor. It also ensures that you remain fully compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
✅ You can enrol in this course if your FAW certificate is still valid or within the short grace period after it has expired (usually up to 28 days).
Eligibility & When to Book
The 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher course is designed for individuals who already possess a valid FAW certificate. To avoid the need for a full 3-day course, it is recommended to secure your spot before your current certification expires.
There is a grace period of 28 days after your certificate expires. If your certification has expired for more than this period, you will be required to start the full FAW course again.
On the first day of training, you will need to present either your valid or recently expired FAW certificate as proof of eligibility to attend the course.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
By attending the FAW Refresher course in Romford, you will revisit the complete First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring your knowledge stays current and your certification remains valid. Over two days, you’ll have the opportunity to practise the essential skills that every workplace first aider needs to know.
- Managing fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis with auto-injectors
- Adult CPR and AED practice
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Recovery position and seizure management
- Responding to heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
- First aid for choking and severe bleeding
- Care for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Scene surveys and casualty assessment
- Understanding first aider responsibilities and infection control
Assessment & Certification
The assessment for the First Aid at Work Refresher in Romford combines practical demonstrations, trainer observations, and a brief multiple-choice exam. This comprehensive assessment ensures that you are confident in applying the skills you’ve practised throughout the course.
Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, which will remain valid for three years and is fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
There is often confusion between the annual refresher and the First Aid at Work Requalification. The annual refresher is a brief session that helps you maintain your skills, but it does not extend your certification.
If your FAW certificate is approaching its expiry, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only training that formally renews your First Aid at Work qualification for another three years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher course is specifically for designated first aiders in medium to high-risk environments, such as construction sites, warehouses, factories, and large office spaces. It is intended for those who need to ensure their qualifications are up to date and comply with the latest HSE regulations.

- ✓ Flexible scheduling options to suit your needs
