What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work Refresher, or FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for individuals whose FAW certification is approaching its expiry. By completing this refresher in Brentwood, you can extend your Level 3 FAW qualification for an additional three years.
In contrast to the full three-day course, this refresher focuses on refreshing key skills and revisiting critical knowledge. It provides you with the opportunity to practise essential first aid techniques under the guidance of an experienced assessor. This course also ensures that you remain compliant with the latest Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
✅ This course is available to those with a valid FAW certificate or within the 28-day grace period after it has expired.
Eligibility & When to Book
The 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher course is available to individuals who currently possess a valid FAW certificate. It’s important to secure your place before your certification expires to avoid the need to repeat the full 3-day course.
After your FAW certificate expires, you are given a 28-day grace period to complete the refresher. If this period has passed, you will need to take the full First Aid at Work course again.
On the first day of your training, remember to bring your valid or recently expired FAW certificate to ensure eligibility for the refresher course.
What Will You Refresh/Practice During the Course?
When you join the FAW Refresher in Brentwood, you’ll revisit the full First Aid at Work syllabus. This 2-day course ensures your first aid skills remain up to date and your certification stays valid. You’ll also have the opportunity to practise essential first aid techniques under the supervision of a qualified assessor.
- Practising adult CPR and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Assessing casualties and conducting thorough scene surveys
- Recognising anaphylaxis and administering treatment with auto-injectors
- Managing fractures, head injuries, spinal injuries, and chest trauma
- Responding to choking emergencies and providing first aid for severe bleeding
- Applying the recovery position and managing seizures
- Responding to health crises, including heart attacks, strokes, asthma, and diabetes

Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher course in Brentwood is assessed through a combination of practical exercises, trainer observations, and a short multiple-choice assessment. This comprehensive evaluation ensures that you can confidently apply the first aid skills you’ve refreshed during the course.
Upon successful completion, you will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate. This certification remains valid for another three years and is fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), ensuring your compliance with UK workplace regulations.
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
Many people confuse the annual refresher with the First Aid at Work Requalification. The annual refresher is a brief course that helps you maintain your first aid skills on a yearly basis. While it’s useful for keeping your knowledge sharp, it does not extend your qualification.
If your FAW certificate is nearing expiry, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This course is the only official programme that renews your First Aid at Work certification for a further three years, ensuring your compliance with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) standards.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher course in Brentwood is designed for first aiders working in medium- to high-risk environments, including construction sites, factories, warehouses, and large office buildings. It is ideal for those who need to update their qualifications and ensure they remain compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements.
