What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, often referred to as the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day training course designed for individuals whose FAW certification is nearing expiration. Upon completing this First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Rochester, you will renew your Level 3 FAW qualification, extending its validity for another three years.
Unlike the comprehensive three-day course, the refresher focuses on refreshing key skills and updating your knowledge, giving you the chance to practice essential first aid techniques under the guidance of an experienced assessor. This course ensures you remain compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
✅ You are eligible to take this course if your FAW certificate is still valid or if it has recently expired, within the 28-day grace period.
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work renewal course is exclusively available to individuals who currently hold a valid FAW certificate. It is advisable to book your place before your certificate expires to avoid the need to complete the full 3-day First Aid at Work course.
A 28-day grace period is provided following certificate expiry. If your FAW certificate has expired beyond this period, you will be required to begin the full FAW course again.
Ensure you bring proof of your valid or recently expired FAW certificate on the first day of training in order to attend the course.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
By enrolling in the FAW Requalification course in Rochester, you'll revisit the entire First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring that your knowledge remains current and your certificate stays valid. Over the two days, you’ll practise essential skills that every workplace first aider needs to master.
- First aider roles and infection control procedures
- Casualty assessment and conducting scene surveys
- Adult CPR and AED usage
- Recovery position and managing seizures
- First aid for choking and severe bleeding
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and other minor injuries
- Managing fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Care for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Identifying and treating anaphylaxis using auto-injectors
- Responding to heart attack, stroke, asthma, epilepsy, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher in Rochester is assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, trainer observation, and a brief multiple-choice test. This ensures that you can effectively apply the refreshed skills gained during the course.
Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for an additional three years and fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
There is often confusion between the annual refresher and the First Aid at Work Requalification. The annual refresher is a shorter course designed to help you practise your skills once a year. While it is beneficial, it does not renew your certificate.
To renew your certificate, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only course that formally renews your First Aid at Work qualification for another three years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher course is intended for designated first aiders working in medium- to high-risk environments, such as construction sites, factories, warehouses, and large offices. It is specifically for those who need to maintain their qualification and stay compliant with HSE regulations.

On-site training provides several advantages:
- ✓ Flexible scheduling options
- ✓ Tailored to your workplace's specific risks
