What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also known as the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day training course designed for individuals whose FAW certificate is approaching expiry. By completing this First Aid at Work Refresher Course in West Yorkshire, you will renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for an additional three years.
Unlike the full three-day programme, this refresher course focuses on refreshing your knowledge and allows you to practise essential first aid skills under the guidance of an assessor. It ensures you remain compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
✅ You can take this course if you still hold a valid FAW certificate or are within the 28-day grace period after expiry.
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work renewal course is available exclusively to learners with a valid FAW certificate. It is important to book your place before your qualification expires to avoid the need for retaking the full 3-day FAW course.
If your certificate has expired, you can still enrol within a 28-day grace period. After this period, you will need to complete the full First Aid at Work course again.
Remember to bring proof of your current or recently expired FAW certificate with you on the first day of training.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
By joining the FAW Requalification in West Yorkshire, you will cover the entire First Aid at Work syllabus once again, ensuring your knowledge is up to date and your certification remains valid. Over two days, you will practice essential skills that every workplace first aider needs to stay prepared.
- Understanding first aider responsibilities and infection control
- Scene surveys and casualty assessment
- Adult CPR and AED practice
- Recovery position and seizure management
- First aid for choking and severe bleeding
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Managing fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Care for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis with auto-injectors
- Responding to heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher in West Yorkshire is assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, trainer observations, and a brief multiple-choice test. This ensures that you can confidently apply the skills you have refreshed during the course.
Upon successful completion, you will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for another three years, and fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
It's easy to confuse the annual refresher with the First Aid at Work Requalification. The annual refresher is a brief course that helps you maintain your skills, but it does not renew your certificate.
If your certificate is due to expire, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only course that formally renews your First Aid at Work qualification for a further three years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher course is designed for appointed first aiders in medium- to high-risk environments such as construction sites, warehouses, factories, and large office buildings. It is perfect for individuals who need to keep their qualification current and remain compliant with HSE regulations.
