SSSTS, short for Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme, is a CITB-approved course within the Site Safety Plus (SSP) scheme, created to enhance safety knowledge and support career growth in construction.
Accredited by CITB, the SSSTS course is ideal for site supervisors or those aiming for the role. It focuses on health and safety regulations, legal duties, and industry best practices, making it a key requirement for site supervisors.
The SSSTS course is designed to be straightforward. Learners complete trainer-assessed exercises and an end-of-course exam. Free mock exams are available for practice, and textbooks are allowed during the final 10 minutes of the test.
Although not legally required, most employers expect candidates applying for site supervisor roles to hold a valid SSSTS certificate.
CITB's Site Safety Plus Scheme includes the SSSTS course, but it is separate from the CSCS scheme. To work as a site supervisor, both an SSSTS qualification and a CSCS gold supervisor's card are usually required.
The CITB Site Supervision Safety Certificate is valid for five years. To stay qualified, holders must complete the one-day SSSTS Refresher course before it expires, extending their certification for another five years.
The construction industry remains strong regardless of economic downturns, as work continues even during recessions. This steady activity highlights the ongoing demand for site supervisors, creating plenty of opportunities for skilled professionals.
If you score between 70%–77% (21–23 out of 30), you qualify for a retake. However, failing the re-sit means retaking the full SSSTS course. A score below 69% (20 or fewer) requires you to complete the entire course before reattempting the exam.
Yes, you can complete the SSSTS course online through a live, tutor-led session on Zoom.
A site supervisor's salary depends on factors such as experience, location, and employer. On average, entry-level roles start at £35,000 per year, while experienced supervisors can earn up to £60,000 annually.
You can book the course online through our website or by calling us at 0333 344 1293.
