What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work Refresher, or FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for individuals whose FAW certification is about to expire. By completing the First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Oxfordshire, you can extend your Level 3 FAW certification for another three years.
Unlike the comprehensive three-day course, this refresher focuses on revisiting critical skills and refreshing your knowledge with the guidance of a qualified assessor. It also ensures that you remain compliant with the latest Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
✅ This course is available to those with a valid FAW certificate or those within the grace period (usually up to 28 days) after expiration.
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher course is exclusively for individuals who currently hold a valid FAW certificate. To avoid the need to take the full 3-day First Aid at Work course, it’s recommended that you book your place before your certification expires.
If your certificate has expired, there is a 28-day grace period during which you can still take the refresher. However, if it’s been longer than 28 days since your certification lapsed, you will be required to complete the full FAW course.
On the first day of the course, you will need to present your valid or recently expired FAW certificate as proof of eligibility to attend.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
When you enrol in the FAW Refresher Course in Oxfordshire, you’ll revisit the essential First Aid at Work content, ensuring that your skills are current and your qualification remains valid. Over the course of two days, you’ll practice critical first aid skills that are essential for any workplace first aider.
- Assessing casualties and conducting scene surveys
- Administering CPR to adults and using an AED
- Managing the recovery position and treating seizures
- Responding to choking incidents and controlling severe bleeding
- Treating burns, scalds, shock, and other minor injuries
- Handling fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Providing care for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis, including the use of auto-injectors
- Dealing with heart attacks, strokes, asthma attacks, epilepsy, and diabetes
- Understanding first aider duties and infection control measures
Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Oxfordshire is assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, trainer-led observations, and a brief multiple-choice test. This ensures that you are able to confidently apply the skills you’ve practised during the course.
Upon successful completion, you will receive an updated Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for another three years. The certification is fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and meets all workplace safety regulations.
Annual Refresher vs. 2-Day FAW Requalification
It’s easy to confuse the annual refresher with the full First Aid at Work Requalification. The annual refresher is a short course designed to keep your skills sharp, but it does not extend your qualification.
To renew your certificate, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only course that officially renews your First Aid at Work certification for another three years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher course is aimed at designated first aiders working in medium- to high-risk environments, such as construction sites, warehouses, factories, and large office settings. It is designed for those who need to update their qualification and maintain compliance with HSE standards.
