What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also known as the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day training course designed for individuals whose FAW certificate is approaching its expiration. By completing this First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Luton, you can extend your Level 3 FAW qualification for another three years.
Unlike the full three-day programme, this refresher focuses on updating your knowledge and providing the opportunity to practice key skills under the supervision of a qualified assessor. It also ensures compliance with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines.
✅ This course is available if you currently hold a valid FAW certificate or are within the 28-day grace period after it has expired.
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work renewal course is only available to individuals who already possess a valid FAW certificate. It is advisable to book your spot before your certificate expires to avoid the need to retake the full 3-day First Aid at Work course.
There is a 28-day grace period after the expiration of your certificate. If your certificate has been expired for more than this period, you will need to complete the full FAW course again.
For entry to the course, you will need to present proof of your current or recently expired FAW certificate on the first day of training.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
During the FAW Requalification course in Luton, you will revisit the entire First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring that your knowledge remains current and your certificate stays valid. Over the span of two days, you will refine essential skills that every workplace first aider should be proficient in.
- Understanding first aider duties and infection control
- Scene surveys and casualty assessments
- Adult CPR and AED usage practice
- Recovery position and seizure management
- First aid for choking and severe bleeding
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Managing fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Caring for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Recognising and managing anaphylaxis with auto-injectors
- Responding to heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher course in Luton is evaluated through practical demonstrations, trainer observations, and a short multiple-choice test. This ensures you are capable of confidently applying the skills you’ve refreshed during the course.
Upon successful completion, you will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for another three years and fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
The annual refresher and the First Aid at Work Requalification are often confused. The annual refresher is a shorter course designed to allow you to practise your skills each year, but it does not renew your certificate.
If your certificate is expiring, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only course that formally renews your First Aid at Work qualification for an additional three years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher is intended for designated first aiders working in medium- to high-risk environments, such as construction sites, factories, warehouses, and large office spaces. It is ideal for individuals who need to renew their qualification and remain compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) standards.
