What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also known as FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for those with an expiring FAW certificate. This course offers the opportunity to renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for an additional three years.
Unlike the full 3-day program, this refresher focuses on updating your existing knowledge and ensuring that you’re well-practised in essential first aid skills. You’ll get the chance to demonstrate your skills under the guidance of an assessor, ensuring you meet Health and Safety Executive (HSE) compliance standards.
✅ This course is available for those who hold a valid FAW certificate or are within the 28-day grace period post-expiry.
Eligibility & When to Book
To attend the 2-day FAW Refresher course, you must already hold a current FAW certificate. We recommend booking your place before your certificate expires to prevent the need for completing the full 3-day course.
If your certificate has expired, you have a 28-day grace period. However, if you are past the grace period, you will be required to complete the full FAW course to renew your qualification.
Please ensure you bring a copy of your current or recently expired FAW certificate with you on the first day of training.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
By enrolling in the FAW Requalification course, you’ll cover all the essential first aid skills needed for workplace safety. Over the span of two days, you’ll refresh your knowledge and practice key techniques under the guidance of experienced trainers.
- CPR and AED practice for adults
- First aid for choking and severe bleeding
- Managing anaphylaxis using auto-injectors
- Managing injuries such as fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Treatment for shock, burns, scalds, and minor wounds
- Scene surveys and casualty assessment
- Seizure management and recovery position techniques
- Response to heart attacks, strokes, seizures, asthma, and diabetes
- Recognising and managing eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Understanding first aider responsibilities and infection control
Assessment & Certification
The FAW Refresher course is assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, trainer observations, and a brief multiple-choice test. These assessments ensure that you can confidently apply your skills in real-life situations.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a renewed Level 3 FAW certificate, valid for another three years and fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
It’s important to distinguish between the annual first aid refresher and the FAW Requalification. The annual refresher is a brief course that helps you practice your skills each year but does not renew your qualification.
To officially renew your FAW certificate, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only course that extends your FAW qualification for another three years.
Who Is the Course For?
The 2-day FAW Refresher course is aimed at designated first aiders working in medium to high-risk environments, such as construction sites, manufacturing plants, warehouses, and large office spaces. It is designed for individuals who need to update their qualification to remain compliant with HSE regulations.
