What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also known as the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for individuals whose FAW certificate is about to expire. By completing this First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Coventry, you can renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for another three years.
Unlike the full three-day programme, the refresher focuses on updating your knowledge and allowing you to practise essential first aid skills under the supervision of a qualified assessor. It ensures that you remain fully compliant with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
✅ You can take this course if you hold a valid FAW certificate or are within the 28-day grace period after expiry.
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work renewal course is open only to those who already hold a valid FAW certificate. It’s best to book your place before your qualification expires to avoid the need to retake the full 3-day FAW course.
There is a 28-day grace period after the certificate expiry. If your certificate has been expired for longer, you’ll need to start the full FAW course again.
To attend the course, you must bring your current or recently expired FAW certificate as proof on the first day of training.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
By attending the FAW Requalification in Coventry, you’ll refresh your knowledge across the full First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring your qualification remains up to date. Over two days, you will practise the essential skills required for any workplace first aider.
- Understanding the role and responsibilities of a first aider and infection control
- Performing scene surveys and casualty assessment
- Administering CPR and using an AED effectively
- Managing the recovery position and responding to seizures
- First aid for choking and severe bleeding control
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Handling fractures and injuries to the head, spine, or chest
- Providing care for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis with auto-injectors
- Responding to heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The FAW Refresher course in Coventry includes both practical assessments and a short multiple-choice test to ensure that you can confidently apply the skills you've refreshed during the course.
On successful completion, you will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for another three years, and fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
The Annual Refresher and the First Aid at Work Requalification are often confused, but they serve different purposes. The annual refresher is a short course that helps you practise first aid skills once a year. While helpful, it does not renew your certificate.
If your First Aid at Work certificate is expiring, you will need to complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only course that officially renews your First Aid at Work qualification for another three years.
Who Is the Course For?
The 2-day FAW Refresher course in Coventry is aimed at individuals who are already appointed first aiders in medium- to high-risk environments, such as warehouses, construction sites, factories, and large offices. This course ensures you remain compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements and that your qualification stays up to date.
