What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also referred to as the FAW Requalification, is a focused 2-day course designed for individuals whose FAW certificate is nearing its expiration. By completing the First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Wolverhampton, you can extend your Level 3 FAW qualification for an additional three years.
This refresher course, unlike the full three-day programme, concentrates on updating your first aid knowledge and offers you the chance to practice crucial skills with the guidance of an experienced assessor. It also ensures you stay fully compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
✅ You are eligible for this course if you currently hold a valid FAW certificate or if it has expired within the last 28 days (grace period).
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work renewal course is open to learners who have a valid FAW certificate. It is recommended that you book this course before your current qualification expires to avoid having to complete the full 3-day First Aid at Work course.
A 28-day grace period exists after your certificate expires. If more than 28 days have passed, you will need to take the complete FAW course again.
Ensure you bring your current or recently expired FAW certificate on the first day of training for verification.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
By attending the FAW Requalification in Wolverhampton, you will cover the entire First Aid at Work syllabus again, keeping your knowledge current and your certificate valid. Over two days, you'll refresh essential first aid skills crucial for any workplace first aider.
- Understanding responsibilities of a first aider and infection control practices
- Conducting scene surveys and casualty assessments
- Practicing adult CPR and using Automated External Defibrillators (AED)
- Managing casualties in the recovery position and dealing with seizures
- Administering first aid for choking and severe bleeding
- Responding to shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Handling fractures, spinal injuries, and chest trauma
- Providing care for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis with auto-injectors
- Responding to medical conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, asthma, epilepsy, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher in Wolverhampton involves assessment through a combination of practical demonstrations, trainer observations, and a brief multiple-choice test. This ensures that you can apply the skills refreshed during the course with confidence.
Upon successful completion, you will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for another three years and fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
There is often confusion between the annual refresher and the First Aid at Work Requalification course. The annual refresher is a short course aimed at practising skills once a year, but it does not renew your certificate.
If your certificate is nearing expiry, you will need to complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only course that officially renews your First Aid at Work qualification for three years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher is intended for designated first aiders in high-risk workplaces such as construction sites, factories, warehouses, and large offices. It is specifically for those who need to renew their qualifications and remain compliant with HSE regulations.
