What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also known as the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for individuals whose FAW certificate is approaching expiry. By attending this course in Northamptonshire, you can renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for an additional three years.
Unlike the full three-day FAW programme, this refresher is focused on updating your knowledge and practising essential skills under the supervision of a qualified assessor. It also ensures you stay fully compliant with current Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance.
✅ This course is suitable if your FAW certificate is still valid or if you are within a short grace period after it has expired, usually up to 28 days.
Eligibility & When to Book
The 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher is specifically designed for learners who already hold a valid FAW certificate. Booking early, before your current qualification expires, helps you avoid having to complete the full 3-day FAW course again.
There is a short grace period of up to 28 days after your certificate expires. If your FAW qualification has lapsed beyond this timeframe, you will need to enrol in the full First Aid at Work course from the beginning.
On the first day of training, please bring a copy of your current or recently expired FAW certificate as proof of eligibility.
What Skills Will You Refresh and Practise?
Attending the FAW Requalification course in Northamptonshire allows you to revisit the full First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring your knowledge stays current and your Level 3 certification remains valid. Over the two days, you'll get hands-on practice of the critical skills needed for any workplace first aider.
- Roles and responsibilities of a workplace first aider, including infection control
- Assessing the scene and evaluating casualties
- Adult CPR and using an AED effectively
- Recovery position techniques and managing seizures
- Providing first aid for choking and severe bleeding incidents
- Managing shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Handling fractures and injuries to the head, spine, or chest
- First aid for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis with auto-injector administration
- Responding to emergencies such as heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The FAW Requalification course in Northamptonshire is evaluated through practical skill demonstrations, continuous observation by the trainer, and a brief multiple-choice questionnaire. This approach ensures you are confident in applying the first aid skills you have practised during the course.
Upon successfully completing the course, you will be awarded a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate. This certification is valid for three years and is fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs the 2-Day FAW Requalification
Many people confuse the annual refresher with the FAW Requalification course. The annual refresher is a brief session designed to help you practise your skills once a year. While useful for keeping up to date, it does not renew your Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate.
If your FAW qualification is due to expire, the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) is required. This course is the only way to formally renew your certification for another three years.
Who Should Attend?
This 2-day FAW Refresher is ideal for appointed first aiders working in medium- to high-risk environments, such as construction sites, warehouses, factories, and larger office settings. It ensures you remain compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
