What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also referred to as FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for those whose FAW certification is about to expire. By completing this First Aid at Work Refresher course in Largs, you can renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for another three years.
Unlike the full 3-day course, the refresher is focused on updating your knowledge and giving you the opportunity to practice key skills with the guidance of an experienced assessor. This course also ensures that you remain fully compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
✅ You can enrol on this course if you hold a valid FAW certificate or are within the short grace period (usually up to 28 days) following its expiry.
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day FAW renewal course is only open to learners who have a current or recently expired FAW certificate. It is recommended to book your place before your current certificate expires to avoid the need to complete the full 3-day FAW course again.
There is a grace period of up to 28 days after the certificate expires. If your certificate has been lapsed for more than this period, you will need to take the full First Aid at Work course.
Make sure to bring proof of your current or recently expired FAW certificate on the first day of the course.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
In this 2-day FAW Requalification course in Largs, you will refresh the entire First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring your knowledge is up-to-date and your certification stays valid. You will practise essential first aid skills, and your ability to respond to emergency situations will be re-assessed.
- Understanding first aider responsibilities and infection control
- Emergency scene management and casualty assessments
- CPR, recovery position, and AED usage
- Managing choking and severe bleeding
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Handling fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Caring for eye injuries and treating suspected poisoning
- Recognising and responding to anaphylaxis with auto-injectors
- Managing heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher course in Largs involves continuous assessment over the 2-day training. You will be assessed through practical demonstrations, direct observation by your trainer, and a short multiple-choice test. This assessment process ensures that you can confidently apply your refreshed skills in real workplace situations.
Upon successful completion, you will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for another three years and fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
Many people confuse the annual refresher with the full First Aid at Work Requalification. The annual refresher is a short course to practise skills but does not renew your certificate.
To officially renew your First Aid at Work qualification, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This course is the only one that formally extends your certification for three years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher is designed for first aiders in medium- to high-risk workplaces, such as construction sites, manufacturing plants, warehouses, and larger office settings. It is tailored for those who need to keep their FAW qualification current and comply with HSE regulations.
