What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?

The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also referred to as the FAW Requalification, is a comprehensive 2-day course designed for individuals whose FAW certificate is nearing expiration. By completing this First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Hull, you can extend your Level 3 FAW qualification for an additional three years.

Unlike the full three-day course, this refresher is tailored to refresh your knowledge and provide hands-on practice with essential skills, all under the supervision of an experienced assessor. This course ensures that you remain compliant with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines.

✅ You are eligible for this course if your FAW certificate is still valid, or within the 28-day grace period following its expiration.

Eligibility & When to Book

This 2-day First Aid at Work renewal course is available to those who currently hold a valid FAW certificate. It’s recommended that you book your place before your current qualification expires to avoid having to attend the full 3-day course.

A grace period of up to 28 days is allowed after the certificate has expired. However, if your certificate has been expired for longer, you will be required to take the full FAW course once again.

On the first day of training, you will need to provide proof of your valid or recently expired FAW certificate.

What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?

During the FAW Requalification in Hull, you will revisit the full First Aid at Work syllabus to ensure your skills are current and your qualification stays valid. Over the two-day duration, you will refine the essential first aid skills needed in any workplace.

  • Understanding the responsibilities of a first aider and infection control
  • Casualty assessment and scene surveys
  • CPR for adults and AED usage
  • Recovery position and management of seizures
  • First aid for choking and severe bleeding control
  • Treatment for shock, burns, scalds, and minor wounds
  • Managing fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
  • Eye injury care and addressing potential poisoning
  • Recognising and managing anaphylaxis using auto-injectors
  • Responding to heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes

Assessment & Certification

The First Aid at Work Refresher in Hull is assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, trainer observations, and a brief multiple-choice test. This ensures that you can effectively apply the skills you have refreshed throughout the course.

Upon successful completion, you will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for another three years, and fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification

It’s easy to confuse the annual refresher with the First Aid at Work Requalification. The annual refresher is a brief course designed to help you refresh your skills once a year. While helpful, it does not renew your certificate.

For those with an expiring certificate, the only way to formally extend your First Aid at Work qualification for another three years is by completing the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course.

Who Is the Course For?

This 2-day FAW Refresher is ideal for designated first aiders working in medium- to high-risk environments, including construction sites, factories, warehouses, and large offices. It’s specifically for individuals who need to maintain their qualification and comply with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements.

If you have a team of employees who need to renew their FAW qualification, organising on-site training at your workplace could be more convenient. • Cost-effective for larger groups
  • Group training in a single session
  • Reduces travel time and time off-site

My experience at Ayotte Recruitment and Training Academy was first class. Three weeks ago, I attended the First Aid and Level 2 Door Supervisor SIA course, and my instructor Peter was very knowledgeable and thorough with his teaching. I learn a lot from him and his staff. Peter and his staff provided the group with some valuable insight into the security industry.
