What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, often referred to as the FAW Requalification, is a two-day course designed for individuals whose FAW certification is nearing its expiration. By enrolling in the First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Sidcup, you will extend your Level 3 FAW certification for another three years.
Unlike the comprehensive three-day course, this refresher is specifically tailored to refresh your skills and ensure your knowledge is up to date. You will also have the opportunity to practise critical first aid techniques with guidance from a qualified assessor. Completing this course ensures you remain compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
✅ You are eligible for this course if your FAW certificate is still valid or within the grace period following its expiration (usually up to 28 days).
Eligibility & When to Book
The 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher course is available to individuals who currently hold a valid FAW certificate. It is recommended to secure your spot before your existing certification expires to avoid the need for re-taking the full 3-day First Aid at Work course.
A 28-day grace period is provided after your certificate expires. If the expiry exceeds this period, you will be required to complete the full FAW course once again.
On the first day of training, you must bring evidence of your valid or recently expired FAW certificate to attend the course.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
By enrolling in the FAW Requalification course in Sidcup, you will revisit the full First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring your knowledge stays current and your certification remains valid. Over the course of two days, you'll refine essential first aid skills necessary for any workplace responder.
- Assessing casualties and performing scene surveys
- Understanding first aider roles and infection control procedures
- Practising Adult CPR and using AEDs effectively
- Managing the recovery position and seizure situations
- Administering first aid for choking and controlling severe bleeding
- Providing care for shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Handling fractures and injuries to the head, spine, and chest
- Responding to eye injuries and suspected poisoning

- Responding to medical emergencies like heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher course in Sidcup involves a combination of practical demonstrations, trainer assessments, and a brief multiple-choice exam. This process ensures that you are capable of confidently applying the skills you’ve reviewed throughout the course.
Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, which is valid for an additional three years and is fully accredited by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
There is often confusion between the annual refresher and the First Aid at Work Requalification. The annual refresher is a brief course designed to help you practise your first aid skills every year. While beneficial, it does not renew your certification.
If your FAW certificate is nearing its expiration, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This course is the only option that officially extends your First Aid at Work qualification for another three years.
Who Is the Course For?
The 2-day FAW Refresher course is aimed at designated first aiders working in medium to high-risk environments such as factories, warehouses, construction sites, and large office settings. It is specifically for individuals who need to keep their qualifications current and stay compliant with HSE standards.
