What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also referred to as FAW Requalification, is a 2-day training course designed for those whose FAW certification is about to expire. By completing this First Aid at Work Refresher course in the West Midlands, you can extend your Level 3 FAW qualification for another three years.
Unlike the comprehensive three-day course, this refresher focuses on refreshing your knowledge and offering the chance to practise key skills w
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher course is exclusively available to individuals who currently hold a valid FAW certificate. It is recommended to secure your place before your existing qualification expires to avoid the need to enrol in the full 3-day First Aid at Work programme.
A 28-day grace period is granted after your certificate expires. Should your certification lapse for longer than this period, you will need to complete the full FAW course from the beginning.
To participate in this course, you must present proof of your valid or recently expired FAW certificate on the first day of training.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
By enrolling in the FAW Refresher course in the West Midlands, you will revisit the entire First Aid at Work curriculum, ensuring your knowledge stays current and your certification remains valid. Throughout the two days, you will refresh the vital skills required of a first aider in any workplace.
- Understanding the duties of a first aider and infection control
- Scene safety and casualty assessment
- Adult CPR and AED use
- Recovery position and managing seizures
- First aid for choking and severe bleeding
- Dealing with shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Managing fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
- First aid for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis with auto-injectors
- Responding to heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The assessment for the First Aid at Work Refresher in the West Midlands consists of a combination of practical exercises, trainer evaluations, and a brief multiple-choice examination. This ensures that you can effectively apply the skills you've refreshed throughout the course.
Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for an additional three years, and fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs the 2-Day FAW Requalification
Many people often confuse the annual refresher with the First Aid at Work Requalification. The annual refresher is a shorter course designed to help you practise essential skills once a year. While beneficial, it does not extend the validity of your certificate.
If your certificate is nearing expiry, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only course that formally renews your First Aid at Work qualification for another three-year period.
Who Should Take This Course?
This 2-day FAW Refresher is intended for designated first aiders working in medium to high-risk environments, such as construction sites, industrial workplaces, warehouses, and large office buildings. It is specifically designed for those who need to maintain their certification and remain compliant with HSE regulations.
