The new SIA ‘refresher’ qualifications are available from 1st October 2024. The qualifications update safety-critical skills door supervisors and security guards use to keep the public safe.  Starting in April 2025, top-up training will transition into mandatory annual refresher courses, ensuring that all licensed professionals stay current with the latest skills and regulations.

No, refresher training and top-up training are not the same. The new refresher training includes updated information on spiking and terror threat awareness, while top-up training will become invalid after 31st January 2025.

No, the SIA Refresher Courses can not be completed online. While there are some online pre-course elements, such as eLearning modules and workbooks, the SIA refreshers require in-person attendance to ensure that participants can engage in practical assessments and hands-on exercises.

No, you cannot renew an expired Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence. If your licence has already expired, you need to apply for a new licence which undergoes the same process for first time applicants, including DBS checks and possibly further training and qualifications.
