What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, sometimes referred to as the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for first aiders whose FAW certificate is approaching its expiry date. Completing the First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Great Yarmouth allows you to renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for a further three years.
Rather than repeating the full three-day course, this requalification focuses on reinforcing existing knowledge and refreshing practical first aid skills under the guidance of a qualified assessor. It ensures you remain confident in your role while continuing to meet Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements.
✅ You can enrol on this course if your FAW certificate is still valid or if it has expired within the short grace period (usually up to 28 days).
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher is intended exclusively for learners who already hold a First Aid at Work certificate. Booking before your qualification expires helps you avoid the need to complete the full 3-day FAW course again.
A grace period of up to 28 days applies once your certificate expires. If it has expired for longer than this, you will be required to complete the full First Aid at Work course instead of the refresher.
On the first day of training, you will be asked to provide evidence of your current or recently expired FAW certificate to take part.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
During the FAW Requalification in Great Yarmouth, you will revisit the full First Aid at Work syllabus to ensure your skills remain current and your certification stays valid. Across the two-day course, you’ll take part in hands-on practice covering the core competencies expected of a workplace first aider.
- Assessing incidents safely, including scene checks and casualty assessment
- Reviewing first aider duties, legal responsibilities, and infection prevention
- Practising adult CPR techniques and safe AED use
- Managing severe bleeding, choking incidents, and shock
- Placing casualties into the recovery position and managing seizures
- Providing care for burns, scalds, and other minor workplace injuries
- Handling fractures and suspected head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Responding to eye injuries and suspected cases of poisoning
- Recognising anaphylaxis and using auto-injectors correctly
- Dealing with medical emergencies such as heart attack, stroke, asthma, epilepsy, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher in Great Yarmouth is assessed using a combination of practical skill demonstrations, continuous trainer observation, and a short multiple-choice assessment. This approach confirms that you can apply refreshed first aid skills effectively and confidently in real workplace situations.
Once you successfully complete the course, you will be awarded a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate. The qualification is valid for three years and fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher course is suitable for designated first aiders working in medium- to high-risk environments, including construction sites, warehouses, manufacturing settings, and larger office workplaces. It is intended for those who already hold a First Aid at Work certificate and need to renew their qualification to stay compliant with current HSE regulations.
