What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, or FAW Requalification, is a 2-day programme designed for individuals who are approaching the expiry of their FAW certification. By completing the First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Stirling, you can renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for another three years.
Unlike the initial 3-day FAW course, the refresher focuses on reinforcing core skills and knowledge, offering participants the chance to refresh their first aid abilities with the help of an experienced instructor. This course also ensures adherence to Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines, keeping you fully compliant.
✅ You can enrol in this course if you hold a valid FAW certificate or are within the 28-day grace period after your certification has expired.
Eligibility and Booking Information
The 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher course is available to those who hold a current, valid FAW certificate. To avoid the need to retake the full 3-day FAW course, we recommend securing your booking before your certification expires.
If your certificate has expired, you are granted a 28-day grace period to attend the refresher course. Should your certificate be expired for more than 28 days, re-enrolment in the full FAW course will be necessary.
On the first day of training, please bring along your valid or recently expired FAW certificate for verification purposes.
What Will You Refresh and Practise During the Course?
Throughout the First Aid at Work Refresher course in Stirling, you will revisit the entire FAW syllabus, ensuring that your skills are current and your qualification is up to date. Over two days, you’ll have plenty of time to refresh and practice essential first aid techniques for a wide range of workplace scenarios.
- Reviewing the responsibilities of a first aider, including infection control protocols
- Conducting assessments of the scene and the casualty
- Performing adult CPR and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Managing injuries, including fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Practising recovery position techniques and seizure management
- Responding effectively to emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, asthma attacks, diabetes-related issues, and seizures
- Providing first aid for choking incidents and managing severe bleeding
- Treating burns, scalds, shock, and minor injuries
- Recognising anaphylaxis and using auto-injectors to treat it
- Caring for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
Assessment and Certification
During the First Aid at Work Refresher course in Stirling, you will undergo assessment through a combination of hands-on exercises, direct observation by the instructor, and a short multiple-choice test. This approach ensures you’re fully prepared to apply your refreshed first aid skills in real-life emergencies.
Once you’ve successfully completed the course, you will be awarded a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate. This certification is valid for three years and is fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs 2-Day FAW Requalification
It’s important to differentiate between the annual refresher and the FAW Requalification course. The annual refresher is a brief session designed to help you practice and keep your first aid skills up to date, but it does not extend the validity of your certification.
If your FAW certificate is about to expire, the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course is required. This is the only programme that officially renews your First Aid at Work certification for an additional three years.
Who Should Take This Course?
The 2-day FAW Refresher course is ideal for individuals working in environments where the risk of accidents or injury is moderate to high and who need to renew their First Aid at Work certification. This includes professionals in industries such as construction, warehousing, manufacturing, and large corporate offices. The course is specifically designed for first aiders who are responsible for ensuring workplace safety and meeting Health and Safety Executive (HSE) compliance standards.
