What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, commonly known as the FAW Requalification, is a comprehensive 2-day course designed for individuals whose FAW certification is about to expire. By completing the First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Wembley, you'll be able to extend your Level 3 FAW certification for an additional three years.
This refresher course, unlike the full three-day programme, focuses on refreshing your knowledge and giving you hands-on practice in critical first-aid skills under the guidance of an experienced assessor. It also ensures you stay fully aligned with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
✅ This course is available to those with a valid FAW certificate or anyone within the grace period after expiry, usually up to 28 days.
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher course is designed for individuals who currently hold a valid FAW certificate. To avoid the need to complete the full 3-day First Aid at Work course, it's essential to secure your spot before your certificate expires.
There is a 28-day grace period after your certification expires. If more than 28 days have passed, you’ll be required to take the full FAW course again.
On the first day of the course, make sure to bring proof of your valid or recently expired FAW certificate to ensure your eligibility for the refresher training.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
When you enrol in the FAW Requalification course in Wembley, you will revisit the full First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring that your knowledge is refreshed and your certification remains current. Over the course of two days, you’ll have the opportunity to practise critical first aid skills that are essential for any workplace first aider.
- Understanding the duties of a first aider and infection control procedures
- Assessing the scene and conducting a thorough casualty assessment
- Practising adult CPR and using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
- Placing a casualty in the recovery position and managing seizures
- Administering first aid for choking and severe bleeding control
- Providing care for shock, burns, scalds, and treating minor injuries
- Managing fractures, head injuries, spinal injuries, and chest trauma
- Treating eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis using auto-injectors
- Responding effectively to heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes emergencies
Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher course in Wembley is evaluated through a combination of practical demonstrations, instructor assessments, and a brief multiple-choice examination. This ensures you have the necessary skills and confidence to apply what you’ve learned during the course.
Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for an additional three years. This certification is fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
Many people confuse the annual refresher with the First Aid at Work Requalification course. The annual refresher is a brief course designed to help you practice essential first aid skills each year. While beneficial, it does not renew your certification.
If your certificate is nearing its expiry, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only programme that officially extends your First Aid at Work certification for an additional 3 years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher course is designed for appointed first aiders working in medium- to high-risk environments, such as construction sites, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and large office settings. It is tailored for individuals who need to keep their qualification current and remain compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) standards.
