What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also known as FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for individuals whose FAW certification is nearing expiration. By completing this First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Surrey, you’ll extend your Level 3 FAW certification for an additional three years.
In contrast to the full three-day program, this refresher is tailored to refresh your skills and knowledge, allowing you to practice key techniques with the guidance of an experienced assessor. It also ensures you remain compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
✅ This course is available for those with a valid FAW certificate or those within the grace period following expiration (typically up to 28 days).
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher course is exclusively for individuals who currently hold a valid FAW certificate. It is advisable to secure your place before your existing qualification expires to avoid the need to complete the full 3-day First Aid at Work course again.
A grace period of 28 days is allowed after your certificate has expired. If your certification has lapsed for more than 28 days, you’ll need to enrol in the full FAW course once more.
On the first day of the course, you’ll be required to bring proof of your valid or recently expired FAW certificate.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
By enrolling in the FAW Requalification in Surrey, you will revisit the entire First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring your skills are current and your certificate stays valid. Throughout the two-day course, you will refresh the critical skills needed for any workplace first aider.
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis using auto-injectors
- Managing fractures, spinal, chest, and head injuries
- Responding to heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
- Adult CPR and AED practice
- Scene surveys and casualty assessment

Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher course in Surrey involves a combination of practical exercises, trainer evaluation, and a brief multiple-choice assessment. This approach ensures you are able to confidently demonstrate the skills you've updated throughout the course.
Upon successfully completing the course, you will be awarded a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for another three years, and fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
It’s important to distinguish between the annual refresher and the First Aid at Work Requalification. The annual refresher is a short course designed to help you practice your skills annually, but it does not renew your qualification.
If your FAW certificate is nearing expiration, the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course is required. This course is the only one that officially extends your First Aid at Work certification for an additional three years.
Who Is the Course For?
The 2-day FAW Refresher course is tailored for designated first aiders working in environments with medium to high-risk factors, such as construction sites, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and large corporate offices. This course is ideal for those who need to keep their certification current and comply with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) standards.
