In-house training: Host the course at your workplace for a group of employees.
The First Aid at Work Refresher, often referred to as the FAW Requalification, is a two-day programme designed for those whose FAW certificate is approaching expiry. By attending the course in Annan, you’ll be able to extend your Level 3 qualification for a further three years.
Instead of covering the entire three-day syllabus again, the refresher centres on reinforcing your existing knowledge, refreshing key techniques, and giving you time to practise under the guidance of an experienced trainer. Completing it ensures you remain aligned with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements.
The First Aid at Work Refresher is a two-day course available only to those who currently hold a valid FAW certificate. To avoid the need to complete the full three-day programme again, it’s recommended that you book your place while your existing qualification is still in date.
A short extension period of up to 28 days after expiry is permitted. Beyond this, learners must restart their training with the full FAW course to regain certification.
All participants are required to provide evidence of their valid or recently expired FAW certificate at the beginning of the course.
During the FAW Refresher in Annan, you will revisit the full First Aid at Work syllabus to bring your knowledge up to date. Across two days, the focus is on practising key techniques and reinforcing the confidence needed to act effectively in workplace emergencies.
During the FAW Refresher in Annan, your progress will be reviewed through continuous observation by the trainer, hands-on practical tasks, and a short written quiz. This balanced approach confirms that you can put the refreshed knowledge into practice effectively.
After completing the course successfully, you’ll be issued with an updated Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate. The qualification is recognised across the UK, approved by the HSE, and remains valid for three years.
People sometimes confuse the annual skills refresher with the full FAW Requalification. The annual refresher is a short session designed to keep your knowledge sharp and give you practice once a year, but it does not extend the validity of your certificate.
When your FAW certificate is nearing expiry, you must complete the two-day FAW Requalification course in order to renew it. This is the recognised route for extending your First Aid at Work certification for another three years.
The two-day FAW Refresher is intended for designated first aiders working in environments where the risks of accidents and medical emergencies are higher. This includes sectors such as warehouses and distribution centres, engineering and factory settings, large office premises, and construction projects. The course is essential for anyone needing to renew their certificate and continue meeting Health and Safety Executive (HSE) standards.
For businesses in Annan with multiple staff due for renewal, arranging the FAW Refresher at your own workplace can be a practical solution. A qualified trainer will come to your premises and deliver the complete two-day requalification course, ensuring your team refreshes their skills together in a familiar environment.
Key advantages of choosing on-site delivery include:
The Annan training venue is based in the town centre, making it straightforward for learners to attend the two-day course with minimal disruption. It is within walking distance of Annan Railway Station, which provides regular services on the Glasgow–Carlisle line. Stagecoach bus routes also stop at High Street and Murray Street in the town centre. Parking is available nearby at Murray Street Car Park and Butts Street Car Park for those travelling by car.
Participants often travel to Annan from surrounding towns and villages, including Dumfries, Lockerbie, Gretna, Eastriggs, Carlisle, Langholm, Lochmaben, and Canonbie. The central location makes it a practical choice for workplaces across Dumfries and Galloway, as well as nearby parts of Cumbria and the Scottish Borders, to complete the FAW Requalification.
In addition to the FAW Refresher, learners in Annan can choose from other accredited first aid courses. Popular options include the one-day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) and the Paediatric First Aid course, designed for those responsible for children. The FAW Refresher is open to those holding a valid First Aid at Work (FAW) certificate, or one that has recently expired within the 28-day grace period. Proof of certification must be shown at the start of the course.
The course runs over 2 days, with each day lasting approximately 6–7 hours including breaks. This condensed format makes it shorter and more focused than the full 3-day FAW course.
You will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, approved by the HSE and recognised throughout the UK. It will remain valid for another three years.
If it expired less than 28 days ago, you can still book the First Aid at Work Refresher course. If it has lapsed beyond that grace period, you’ll need to complete the full 3-day First Aid at Work course again.
