What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also referred to as FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for individuals whose FAW certification is about to expire. This course provides the opportunity to renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for an additional three years, ensuring continued compliance with health and safety regulations.
Unlike the full 3-day First Aid at Work course, this refresher focuses on revising your knowledge and skills, with the added benefit of hands-on practice under the supervision of a qualified assessor. This course is essential to maintain compliance with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) standards and to stay up-to-date with any changes in procedures or legislation.
✅ You can take this course if your FAW certificate is still valid, or if you’re within the grace period following its expiry (typically up to 28 days).
Eligibility & When to Book
The 2-day First Aid at Work renewal course is specifically designed for learners who already hold a valid FAW certificate. To ensure you avoid the need to retake the full 3-day FAW course, it is recommended to book your place before your current qualification expires.
If your certificate has expired, there is a 28-day grace period in which you can still take the refresher. However, if it has been longer than 28 days since expiry, you will need to complete the full FAW course again.
To attend the course, please ensure you bring your current or recently expired FAW certificate with you on the first day of training.
What Will You Refresh/Practice During the Course?
When you join the FAW Requalification course in East Ham, you’ll revisit the entire First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring your skills and knowledge are up-to-date. Over two days, you will practice critical first aid skills, reinforcing the essentials needed for any workplace first aider.

- Responding to heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The assessment for the First Aid at Work Refresher course in East Ham is a blend of practical demonstrations, trainer observations, and a brief multiple-choice test. This combination ensures that you are fully confident in applying the refreshed skills in real-world workplace scenarios.
Upon successful completion, you will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for an additional three years. This certification is fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), confirming your compliance with workplace health and safety regulations.
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
It’s important to distinguish between the annual refresher and the First Aid at Work Requalification course. The annual refresher is a short course designed to help you practice and reinforce your first aid skills once a year. While helpful for maintaining skills, it does not renew your certificate.
If your FAW certificate is about to expire, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the official course that renews your First Aid at Work qualification for an additional three years, ensuring continued compliance with industry standards.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher course is designed for designated first aiders working in medium- to high-risk environments, including industries such as construction, manufacturing, warehousing, and large office spaces. It’s ideal for those who need to refresh their knowledge, keep their qualification up to date, and ensure compliance with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
