What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also known as the FAW Requalification course, is a 2-day programme designed for those whose FAW certification is nearing expiration. By completing the First Aid at Work Refresher course in Elephant and Castle, you will be able to renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for an additional three years.
This refresher course differs from the full 3-day programme as it focuses primarily on updating your first aid knowledge and provides practical opportunities to rehearse key skills under the supervision of an instructor. It ensures you remain compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines.
✅ This course is available if you hold a valid FAW certificate or are within the 28-day grace period after its expiry.
Eligibility & When to Book
To enrol in this 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher course, you must already hold a valid FAW certificate. It’s essential to book your place before your certificate expires to avoid the need for retaking the full 3-day First Aid at Work course.
There is a 28-day grace period after your certificate has expired. Should the certificate lapse beyond this period, you will be required to retake the full FAW course from the beginning.
On the first day of training, you must provide proof of your current or recently expired FAW certificate in order to attend the course.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
The FAW Requalification course in Elephant and Castle covers the full First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring your knowledge stays current, and your qualification remains valid. Over two days, you’ll refresh and practise critical first aid skills required in any workplace setting.
- Understanding the role and responsibilities of a first aider, including infection control
- Scene assessment and casualty management
- Practising Adult CPR and using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
- Managing the recovery position and handling seizures
- Providing first aid for choking and severe bleeding
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and other minor injuries

Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher course in Elephant and Castle is assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, direct observation by your instructor, and a brief multiple-choice test. This assessment method ensures that you can apply the refreshed skills with confidence in real-world workplace situations.
Upon successful completion, you will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, which will be valid for another three years and fully accredited by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
Many people confuse the annual refresher with the First Aid at Work Requalification. The annual refresher is a brief session designed to help you practise your skills yearly. While useful, it does not renew your certification.
If your FAW certificate is about to expire, you’ll need to complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only course that officially renews your First Aid at Work qualification for another three years.
Who Is the Course For?
The 2-day FAW Refresher course in Elephant and Castle is intended for appointed first aiders working in high-risk environments, including manufacturing facilities, large offices, warehouses, and construction sites. It’s designed for professionals who need to maintain their qualification and stay compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
