What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, often referred to as the FAW Requalification, is a two-day programme created for individuals whose current certificate is approaching expiry. By enrolling in the First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Bexley, you can extend your Level 3 FAW certification for an additional three years.
Rather than repeating the full three-day course, this refresher is designed to refresh your understanding and give you practical time to revisit core first aid techniques under professional guidance. Completing it also ensures you continue to meet the standards set by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
✅ This course is open to learners with a valid FAW certificate, as well as those within the permitted 28-day grace period after expiry.
Eligibility & When to Book
This two-day First Aid at Work Refresher is only available to those who already hold a valid FAW certificate. To avoid having to restart the full three-day course, it’s best to secure your place before your current certificate runs out.
If your qualification has expired, there is a 28-day grace period during which you can still take the refresher. Once that time has passed, you’ll need to complete the full FAW course again from the beginning.
On the first day of training in Bexley, participants must provide evidence of their current or recently expired FAW certificate.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
Enrolling on the FAW Requalification in Bexley gives you the chance to revisit the full First Aid at Work syllabus. Across two days, you’ll update your knowledge, practise essential techniques, and make sure your certification remains valid and recognised.
- Carrying out scene assessments and checking casualties
- Adult CPR practice, AED operation, and recovery position
- Managing choking incidents and controlling severe bleeding
- Providing first aid for burns, scalds, shock, and minor injuries
- Responding to fractures, spinal, chest, and head injuries
- Treating eye injuries, seizures, and suspected poisoning
- Recognising and managing anaphylaxis using auto-injectors
- Understanding a first aider’s role, infection control, and responsibilities
- Emergency care for asthma, diabetes, heart attacks, strokes, and epilepsy
Assessment & Certification
During the First Aid at Work Refresher in Bexley, your progress will be evaluated through hands-on practice, continuous trainer assessment, and a short written multiple-choice test. This combined approach confirms that you can apply the skills you’ve refreshed with confidence.
Once you successfully complete the course, you’ll be awarded a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate. The certificate is valid for three years and is fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
Many learners confuse the one-day annual refresher with the formal requalification course. The annual refresher is a brief session intended to keep your skills sharp each year, but it does not extend the validity of your certificate.
When your FAW certificate is nearing expiry, the only way to renew it is to take the two-day FAW Refresher (Requalification). Completing this course in Bexley updates your knowledge and officially renews your qualification for another three years.
Who Is the Course For?
The FAW Refresher is aimed at existing first aiders working in environments with medium to high levels of risk, including factories, warehouses, larger office settings, and construction sites. It’s ideal for those who need to keep their certificate valid and continue meeting HSE compliance requirements.
