What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also referred to as the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day training course designed for those whose FAW certification is approaching its expiry date. Completing this First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Motherwell will allow you to renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for an additional three years.
Unlike the full three-day programme, this refresher course focuses on updating your first aid knowledge and providing hands-on practice of critical skills under the supervision of a qualified assessor. It also ensures you remain compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
✅ This course is available if your FAW certificate is still valid or if you are within the grace period after its expiry (typically 28 days).
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work refresher course is only open to individuals who already hold a valid FAW certificate. To avoid having to retake the full 3-day First Aid at Work course, it is recommended that you book your place before your current qualification expires.
If your certificate has expired for more than 28 days, you will need to complete the full FAW course again to regain your qualification.
On the first day of training, you must present proof of your current or recently expired FAW certificate to participate in the refresher course.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
By attending the FAW Requalification course in Motherwell, you will revisit the entire First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring your knowledge is refreshed and your certification remains valid. Throughout the 2-day training, you will rehearse the essential first aid skills required in every workplace.
- Understanding first aider responsibilities and infection control
- Scene surveys and casualty assessment
- Adult CPR and AED practice
- Recovery position and managing seizures
- First aid for choking and severe bleeding
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Managing fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Caring for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis with auto-injectors
- Responding to heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher course in Motherwell is assessed through practical demonstrations, trainer observations, and a brief multiple-choice test. This assessment ensures that you are fully capable of applying the skills you've refreshed during the course with confidence.
Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, which remains valid for three years and is fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
It's important to distinguish between the annual refresher and the First Aid at Work Requalification. The annual refresher is a short course that helps you maintain your skills throughout the year, but it does not renew your qualification.
To officially renew your certificate, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only course that provides a formal renewal of your First Aid at Work qualification for an additional three years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher course is aimed at appointed first aiders in medium- to high-risk environments, such as construction sites, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and large office spaces. It is designed for individuals who need to keep their certification current and ensure ongoing compliance with HSE standards.
