What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, often referred to as FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for individuals whose FAW certificate is approaching its expiration. Completing this refresher will allow you to extend your Level 3 FAW certification for an additional three years.
Unlike the comprehensive three-day FAW course, this refresher focuses on reinforcing your knowledge and offering hands-on practice of essential first aid techniques, all while being assessed by an experienced trainer. This ensures that you remain compliant with the latest guidelines from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
✅ To attend this course, you must hold a valid FAW certificate or be within 28 days of its expiry.
Eligibility & When to Book
The First Aid at Work Refresher is a 2-day training course available exclusively to those who currently possess a valid FAW certificate. It is recommended to schedule your training before your certification expires to avoid the need to retake the full 3-day FAW course.
If your certificate has expired, there is a grace period of 28 days. Beyond this period, you will be required to complete the entire FAW course again.
Please remember to bring your valid or recently expired FAW certificate with you on the first day of the training session.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
During the FAW Requalification course, you’ll revisit the entire First Aid at Work syllabus to ensure your knowledge is up to date. This 2-day training will provide you with the opportunity to practice essential life-saving skills, reinforcing your preparedness to act confidently in the workplace.
- Practice Adult CPR and AED use
- Respond to choking incidents and control severe bleeding
- Learn how to manage fractures, spinal, chest, and head injuries
- Refresh your knowledge of first aider responsibilities and infection control
- Assess and survey a scene, evaluating the casualty’s condition
- Understand how to treat shock, burns, and minor injuries
- Practice recovery position and seizure management techniques
- Learn to recognise and treat anaphylaxis, using auto-injectors when necessary
- Care for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Respond effectively to medical emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The FAW Refresher course in Ealing is assessed through a combination of practical exercises, trainer observations, and a brief multiple-choice test. These assessments ensure that you can demonstrate your refreshed first aid skills confidently.
Once you complete the course successfully, you will be awarded a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate. This certification will remain valid for three more years and is fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
Many people confuse the annual refresher with the FAW Requalification. The annual refresher is a brief course focused on refreshing your skills, but it does not extend the validity of your certification.
If your FAW certificate is about to expire, you will need to complete the 2-day FAW Refresher course. This course is the only one that officially renews your First Aid at Work qualification for an additional three years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher course is aimed at designated first aiders in workplaces with medium to high-risk environments. Professionals working in industries such as construction, manufacturing, large offices, warehouses, and factories should take this course to ensure their qualification stays current and to maintain compliance with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
