What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also known as the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day training course for people whose FAW certificate is due to expire. By completing this First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Grimsby, you can renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for another three years.
Unlike the full three-day programme, this refresher focuses on updating your knowledge and providing you with the opportunity to practise essential skills under the supervision of an assessor. It also keeps you fully compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance.
✅ You can take this course if you still hold a valid FAW certificate or are within the short grace period after expiry (typically up to 28 days).
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work renewal course is only open to learners who already hold a valid FAW certificate. You should book your place before your current qualification expires to avoid having to retake the full 3-day First Aid at Work course.
There is a 28-day grace period after expiry. If your certificate has lapsed longer than this, you’ll need to restart with the full FAW course.
To attend the course, you’ll also need to bring proof of your current or recently expired FAW certificate on the first day of training.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
By joining the FAW Requalification in Grimsby, you’ll cover the complete First Aid at Work syllabus again — ensuring your knowledge is up to date and your certificate remains valid. Over two days, you will practise the essential skills every workplace first aider needs.
- Adult CPR and AED practice
- Scene surveys and casualty assessment
- Understanding first aider responsibilities and infection control
- Managing fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Recovery position and seizure management
- First aid for choking and severe bleeding
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis with auto-injectors
- Care for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Responding to heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher in Grimsby is assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, trainer observation, and a short multiple-choice test. This ensures you can confidently apply the skills you’ve refreshed during the course.
Upon successful completion, you will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for another three years and fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
It’s easy to confuse the annual refresher with the First Aid at Work Requalification. The annual refresher is a short course designed to help you practise your skills once a year. While useful, it does not renew your certificate.
If your certificate is expiring, you will need to complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only course that formally renews your First Aid at Work qualification for another three years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher course is aimed at appointed first aiders working in medium- to high-risk environments, such as construction sites, factories, warehouses, and large offices. It is designed for individuals who need to maintain their qualification and stay compliant with HSE requirements.
