What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also known as FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course for individuals whose FAW certification is about to expire. Completing the First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Uxbridge allows you to extend your Level 3 FAW qualification for another three years.
Unlike the full three-day course, the refresher focuses on refreshing your knowledge and offers you the opportunity to practise vital first aid skills under the guidance of a qualified assessor. This course ensures you remain compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) standards.
✅ This course is available if you currently hold a valid FAW certificate or are within the 28-day grace period following its expiration.
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher course is available exclusively for individuals who hold a valid FAW certificate. It is important to book your place before your current certification expires to prevent the need to complete the full three-day First Aid at Work course.
A 28-day grace period is provided after the expiration of your certificate. If your certificate is expired for longer than this period, you will need to begin the full FAW course again.
On the first day of training, you must bring proof of your current or recently expired FAW certificate to participate in the course.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
By participating in the FAW Requalification course in Uxbridge, you will revisit the entire First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring your knowledge stays current and your certification remains valid. Over the span of two days, you will practise the key skills needed by every workplace first aider.
- Handling the recovery position and managing seizures
- Administering first aid for choking and controlling severe bleeding
- Understanding the responsibilities of a first aider and infection control procedures
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis using auto-injectors
- Providing care for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Adult CPR techniques and AED operation
- Responding effectively to heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
- Conducting scene surveys and performing casualty assessments
- Handling fractures, head injuries, spinal injuries, and chest trauma
Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher is assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, trainer observations, and a brief multiple-choice test. This approach ensures that you are confident in applying the refreshed skills throughout the course.
Upon successful completion, you will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, which is valid for another three years and fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
The annual refresher course is often confused with the FAW Requalification. While the annual refresher is a brief course to practise your skills once a year, it does not renew your certificate.
If your certificate is approaching its expiry, you will need to complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only course that officially renews your First Aid at Work qualification for another three years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher is intended for designated first aiders in medium- to high-risk environments, such as construction sites, factories, warehouses, and large office spaces. It is ideal for individuals who need to ensure their qualification remains current and comply with HSE regulations.
