Our two-day HSE compliant Level 3 Paediatric First Aid course is an online training. The course provides theoretical and practical training in First Aid techniques that are specific to infants aged 0 to 1, and children aged from 1 year old to the onset of puberty. Learners will become familiar with the role of the paediatric first aider and be able to assess and react appropriately to an emergency.
This course is for people who care for babies and children in a professional setting, examples include; teachers, playgroup leaders, childcare providers, Au pairs, nannies, child-minders or delegates working towards an NVQ in Childcare and Education.
Did you know that it is a legal requirement for at least one person with a Level 3 Paediatric first aid certificate to be available at all times within all professional childcare establishments.
On successful completion of the Paediatric First Aid course, you will receive a Highfield accredited certificate and Photo ID Card. The certificate is valid for three years and must be renewed if you wish to continue to act as a first aider in the workplace.
This topic will cover the roles and responsibilities of a first aider that you need to carry out in order to minimise the risk of infection to yourself and to others while providing first aid. You will also learn when the casualty's consent is required and when it can be assumed. Moreover, you will learn who qualifies as an infant and a child for the purposes of first aid treatment.
You will learn how to conduct a scene survey, as well as, a primary survey on an infant and a child, and summon appropriate assistance based on the outcome of that survey.
In this topic, you will learn when and how to deliver CPR and place an infant and a child in the recovery position. You will also learn how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who is experiencing a seizure.
You will learn how to identify when an infant and a child is experiencing mild or severe choking and how to deliver first aid to them.
You will learn to identify the severity of external bleeding and control it.
You will learn to recognise an infant or a child who is suffering from shock and administer first aid to them.
