What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work Refresher, also referred to as the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for individuals whose FAW certificate is approaching its expiration date. Upon completing this refresher course in London, you will renew your Level 3 FAW certification for an additional three years.
In contrast to the full three-day course, this refresher focuses on refreshing your knowledge and offers hands-on practice under the guidance of a qualified assessor. It ensures your compliance with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations while keeping your skills up to date.
✅ The course is applicable as long as you have a valid FAW certificate or if you are within the 28-day grace period following its expiration.
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher course is intended for those who currently hold a valid FAW certificate. It is recommended to book your training before your certificate expires to avoid the need to undertake the full 3-day First Aid at Work course again.
If your certificate has expired, you have a 28-day grace period to attend the refresher. After this period, you will be required to retake the full FAW course to renew your qualification.
To attend the refresher course, you must present your current or recently expired FAW certificate on the first day of training as proof of eligibility.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
During the First Aid at Work Refresher course in London, you will revisit the entire First Aid at Work syllabus. This ensures your knowledge stays current, keeping your certificate valid. Over two days, you'll learn the vital skills required of any workplace first aider.
- Assessing the scene and evaluating casualties
- Adult CPR and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AED)
- Providing first aid for choking and severe bleeding
- Recognising and responding to heart attacks, strokes, asthma, and diabetes
- Managing shock, burns, scalds, and treating minor injuries
- Using the recovery position and managing seizures
- First aid for fractures, and head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Responding to eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Dealing with anaphylaxis and administering auto-injectors
- Understanding first aider roles and infection control
Assessment & Certification
Throughout the FAW Refresher course in London, your skills will be assessed via a combination of practical demonstrations, trainer observations, and a short multiple-choice test. This ensures you can apply the refreshed skills effectively in real-life situations.
Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, which is valid for another three years and fully compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) standards.
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
Many people confuse the annual refresher with the First Aid at Work Requalification course. While the annual refresher is a brief course that allows you to practice your skills once a year, it does not extend the validity of your certificate.
If your FAW certificate is about to expire, the only way to renew it for an additional three years is by completing the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This course ensures your qualification stays up to date and complies with HSE regulations.
Who Is the Course For?
The 2-day FAW Refresher course is aimed at individuals responsible for first aid in high-risk environments. This includes professionals working in sectors such as construction, warehouses, factories, and large offices. It is ideal for those who need to update their qualifications and maintain compliance with HSE regulations.
