What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, or FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for those whose FAW certification is approaching its expiration. By completing this course, you will renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for an additional three years.
This refresher is not as extensive as the full three-day programme but is focused on refreshing your knowledge and allowing you to practice essential skills under the supervision of an assessor. It ensures that you remain compliant with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines.
✅ If your FAW certificate is still valid or you are within the 28-day grace period post-expiry, you can take this refresher course.
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher course is available only to individuals who hold a valid FAW certificate. It is recommended to book your course before your certificate expires to avoid having to re-enrol in the full 3-day First Aid at Work course.
You can still enrol within 28 days after your certificate expires. Beyond this period, you will need to take the full FAW course to renew your qualification.
Please bring proof of your current or recently expired FAW certificate with you on the first day of training.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
The FAW Requalification course ensures you revisit the complete First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring your skills are current and your certification is renewed. Over the course of two days, you will practise critical first aid skills needed in any workplace setting:
- Handling medical emergencies like heart attacks, strokes, asthma, epilepsy, and diabetes
- Scene surveys and casualty assessment
- Applying the recovery position and seizure management
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Performing adult CPR and using an AED
- Managing choking and severe bleeding
- Recognising and responding to anaphylaxis with auto-injectors
- First aid for fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Managing eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Understanding first aider responsibilities and infection control
This course will ensure that you are fully prepared to handle emergencies in the workplace with confidence.
Assessment & Certification
The FAW Refresher course is assessed through practical demonstrations, direct observation by your instructor, and a brief multiple-choice test. These assessments ensure that you are proficient in applying the refreshed skills in real-life workplace situations.
Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, which will be valid for another three years. This qualification is recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and complies with workplace health and safety regulations.
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
It’s important to distinguish between the Annual Refresher and the FAW Requalification course. The Annual Refresher is a shorter course designed to help you practice your skills once a year. While valuable, it does not renew your First Aid at Work qualification.
If your FAW certificate is nearing expiry, you must complete the 2-day FAW Requalification course. This is the only course that formally extends your First Aid at Work certification for another three years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher course is aimed at first aiders in medium to high-risk workplaces who need to renew their qualification. It is ideal for those responsible for providing first aid in industries such as construction, warehousing, manufacturing, and large offices.
The course is also suitable for individuals who are required to stay compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations, ensuring that their first aid certification remains up to date.
