The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, sometimes called the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for individuals whose First Aid at Work certificate is approaching expiry. By completing this First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Kirkwall, you can renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for a further three years.
Unlike the full three-day FAW programme, this refresher course focuses on revisiting essential knowledge and practising practical skills under the supervision of a qualified trainer. It ensures your skills remain up to date while keeping you fully compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines.
This 2-day First Aid at Work renewal course is available only to learners who already hold a valid FAW certificate. It’s recommended that you book before your current certificate expires so that you can avoid retaking the full three-day First Aid at Work course.
If your certificate has expired, there is typically a 28-day grace period during which you can still complete the refresher. If the expiry date has passed beyond this period, you will need to enrol on the full FAW course again.
You will also need to bring evidence of your current or recently expired FAW certificate with you on the first day of training.
By joining the FAW Requalification in Kirkwall, you will revisit the full First Aid at Work syllabus to ensure your knowledge is up to date and your certification remains valid. Over the two days, you will practise the essential techniques required of workplace first aiders.
The First Aid at Work Refresher in Kirkwall is assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, trainer observation, and a short multiple-choice test. This approach ensures that you are able to confidently apply the techniques you have practised throughout the course.
After successfully completing the training, you will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate. This qualification is valid for another three years and is fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
The annual refresher and the First Aid at Work Requalification are often confused. The annual refresher is a shorter course designed to help you practise your first aid skills each year, but it does not renew your certificate.
If your FAW qualification is approaching expiry, you will need to complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification). This is the only course that formally renews your First Aid at Work certificate for another three years.
This 2-day FAW Refresher is suitable for appointed workplace first aiders working in medium- to high-risk environments such as construction sites, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and larger workplaces. It helps ensure that first aiders keep their certification up to date and remain compliant with HSE requirements.
If several members of your team need to renew their FAW qualification, arranging on-site training at your workplace can be a convenient option. An accredited trainer can deliver the full two-day requalification course at your premises, allowing your staff to refresh their skills together.
On-site training offers several benefits:
The Kirkwall training venue is conveniently located, making it easy for first aiders who need to renew their FAW certificate to attend the 2-day course. The venue can be reached by local transport, and parking is available for those travelling by car.
Learners regularly attend not only from Kirkwall itself but also from surrounding areas across the Orkney Mainland, including St Ola, Finstown, Dounby, Stenness, Orphir, Evie, and Tankerness. Many workplaces in these communities choose the Kirkwall venue as a practical location for their staff to complete the FAW Requalification.
