What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, or FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for individuals whose FAW certificate is nearing expiration. By completing this First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Hertfordshire, you’ll be able to renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for another three years.
Unlike the full three-day First Aid at Work course, the refresher focuses on updating your knowledge and allows you to practice key first aid skills under the supervision of a qualified assessor. The course ensures you remain fully compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
✅ You can attend this course if your FAW certificate is still valid or within the short grace period after it has expired (typically up to 28 days).
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work renewal course is only available to learners who hold a current or recently expired FAW certificate. It's advisable to book your place before your certificate expires to avoid having to retake the full 3-day First Aid at Work course.
If your certificate has lapsed for more than 28 days, you will need to re-enrol in the full FAW course.
Remember to bring proof of your current or expired FAW certificate with you on the first day of training.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
By taking the FAW Requalification course in Hertfordshire, you'll review the full First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring your knowledge is refreshed and your qualification remains valid. Over the two days, you'll practise the key skills required by any workplace first aider.
- Understanding first aider responsibilities and infection control
- Scene surveys and casualty assessment
- Adult CPR and AED practice
- Recovery position and seizure management
- First aid for choking and severe bleeding
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Managing fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Care for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis with auto-injectors
- Responding to heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The FAW Refresher course in Hertfordshire is assessed through practical demonstrations, trainer observations, and a short multiple-choice test. This ensures that you can confidently apply the refreshed skills in real-life scenarios.
Upon successful completion, you’ll receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for another three years, which is fully accredited and recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
There is often confusion between the annual refresher and the First Aid at Work Requalification course. The annual refresher is a brief course that allows you to practice your skills each year. While it is helpful, it does not renew your certification.
If your FAW certificate is expiring, you’ll need to complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only course that officially renews your First Aid at Work qualification for another three years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher course is tailored for designated first aiders in medium- to high-risk workplaces, such as construction sites, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and large office buildings. The course is specifically designed for individuals who need to ensure their certification remains up to date and compliant with HSE standards.
