What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?

The First Aid at Work Refresher, also known as the FAW Requalification, is a two-day training course for individuals whose FAW certification is approaching expiry. By completing this course in Perth, you can extend your Level 3 FAW qualification for another three years.

Unlike the full three-day course, this refresher programme is tailored to help you update your skills and refresh essential knowledge through practical sessions guided by an accredited assessor. It ensures that you remain compliant with the latest Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.

✅ This course is available to anyone holding a current FAW certificate or those within the grace period after it has expired (up to 28 days).

Eligibility & When to Book

This two-day First Aid at Work Refresher course is available exclusively to individuals who currently hold a valid FAW certificate. It is recommended to reserve your spot before your qualification expires to avoid the need to complete the full three-day First Aid at Work course again.

A 28-day grace period is allowed after your certification expires. Should your certificate lapse beyond this period, you will be required to take the full FAW course from the beginning.

Participants must present proof of a valid or recently expired FAW certificate on the first day of training to attend the course.

What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?

By taking the FAW Requalification course in Perth, you'll revisit the full First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring that your knowledge is refreshed and your certificate stays valid. Over the course of two days, you'll have the opportunity to practice the key first aid skills essential for any workplace.

  • Practising CPR for adults and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Managing severe bleeding, choking, and the treatment of shock
  • Assessing casualties and conducting scene surveys
  • Handling fractures, head, chest, and spinal injuries
  • Providing care for eye injuries and potential poisoning
  • Recognising and treating anaphylaxis using auto-injectors
  • Supporting individuals with asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, heart attacks, or strokes
  • Understanding the roles and responsibilities of a first aider, along with infection control protocols
  • Positioning someone in the recovery position and managing seizures
  • Administering first aid for burns, scalds, and minor injuries

Assessment & Certification

The First Aid at Work Refresher course in Perth is assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, trainer observations, and a brief multiple-choice test. This comprehensive approach ensures that you can confidently apply the refreshed skills in real-world scenarios.

Upon successful completion, you'll receive an updated Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for another three years. This certification is fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and meets all necessary regulatory standards.

Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification

Many people confuse the annual refresher with the First Aid at Work Requalification. The annual refresher is a short course designed to help you practice your first aid skills each year, but it doesn’t renew your certificate.

If your certificate is about to expire, the only way to renew it is by completing the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This course is essential to formally extend your First Aid at Work certification for another three years.

Who Is the Course For?

This 2-day FAW Refresher course is specifically designed for designated first aiders working in medium- to high-risk environments, including construction sites, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and large office spaces. It is ideal for those who need to maintain their qualification and ensure ongoing compliance with HSE standards.

On-Site First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Perth

If you have a team that needs to renew its FAW qualification, booking on-site training at your workplace can offer great convenience. An accredited instructor will deliver the full 2-day requalification course directly at your premises, ensuring your team can update their skills without leaving the workplace.

Opting for on-site training brings a range of benefits:

  • Flexible scheduling to suit your team’s needs
  • Tailored to address specific workplace hazards
  • More cost-effective for larger groups
  • Group training in a single session
  • Reduces time spent away from work and travel

My experience at Ayotte Recruitment and Training Academy was first class. Three weeks ago, I attended the First Aid and Level 2 Door Supervisor SIA course, and my instructor Peter was very knowledgeable and thorough with his teaching. I learn a lot from him and his staff. Peter and his staff provided the group with some valuable insight into the security industry.
