What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, or FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for individuals whose FAW certification is approaching expiry. By attending this First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Manchester, you can renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for another three years.
Unlike the initial three-day course, this refresher focuses on updating your knowledge and giving you the chance to practice essential first aid skills under the guidance of an assessor. It also ensures you stay compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) standards.
✅ This course is available if you currently hold a valid FAW certificate or are within the 28-day grace period after expiry.
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work renewal course is available only to those who already hold a valid FAW certificate. To avoid the need to retake the full 3-day FAW course, it's important to book your place before your certification expires.
A 28-day grace period is offered after the expiry date. If your certificate has lapsed beyond this period, you will need to start fresh with the full FAW course.
Ensure you bring your current or recently expired FAW certificate on the first day of the course to attend the refresher training.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
During the FAW Requalification in Manchester, you will cover the complete First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring your knowledge is up to date and your qualification remains valid. Over the course of two days, you will refresh the essential skills required for every workplace first aider.
- Understanding first aider responsibilities and infection control
- Casualty assessment and scene survey
- Adult CPR and AED practice
- Recovery position and management of seizures
- First aid for choking and severe bleeding
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Managing fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Caring for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis with auto-injectors
- Responding to conditions like heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher course in Manchester is assessed through practical demonstrations, trainer observations, and a brief multiple-choice test. This ensures that you can confidently apply the skills you’ve refreshed during the course.
Upon successful completion, you will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for another three years, fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
Many people confuse the annual refresher with the FAW Requalification course. The annual refresher is a brief session for practising skills once a year, but it does not renew your qualification.
If your certificate is expiring, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course, which is the only course that formally renews your qualification for an additional three-year period.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher is designed for appointed first aiders in medium- to high-risk environments, such as construction sites, factories, warehouses, and large offices. It is aimed at individuals who need to keep their qualification current and comply with HSE regulations.
