What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also known as the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course for individuals whose FAW certificate is about to expire. Completing this First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Walsall will allow you to renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for another three years.
Unlike the comprehensive three-day course, this refresher focuses on updating your knowledge and providing you with the chance to practise essential life-saving skills under the supervision of an accredited assessor. It ensures you stay fully compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
✅ You can take this course if your FAW certificate is still valid or if it is within the 28-day grace period after expiry.
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher course is available exclusively to individuals who currently hold a valid FAW certificate. We recommend booking your place before your qualification expires to avoid the need to retake the full 3-day First Aid at Work course.
A 28-day grace period is allowed after expiry. If your certificate has lapsed beyond this period, you will need to complete the full FAW course to requalify.
To attend the course, you will need to bring your valid or recently expired FAW certificate as proof on the first day of training.
What Will You Refresh/Practice During the Course?
By enrolling in the FAW Requalification course in Walsall, you’ll revisit the entire First Aid at Work syllabus—ensuring that your knowledge is current and your certification remains valid. Over two days, you will practice essential life-saving skills required for any workplace first aider.
- Understanding the role of a first aider and infection control practices
- Conducting scene surveys and casualty assessments
- Adult CPR and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Learning the recovery position and managing seizures
- Providing first aid for choking and severe bleeding
- Managing shock, burns, scalds, and treating minor injuries
- Handling fractures, head injuries, spinal injuries, and chest injuries
- Providing care for eye injuries and dealing with suspected poisoning
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis with auto-injectors
- Responding to medical emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher in Walsall is assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, trainer observations, and a brief multiple-choice exam. This ensures that you are fully capable of applying the skills you’ve refreshed during the course.
Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for another three years and fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
Many people confuse the annual refresher with the First Aid at Work Requalification. The annual refresher is a brief course to help you practice your skills once a year, but it will not renew your certificate.
If your certificate is nearing expiry, you will need to complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only course that officially renews your First Aid at Work qualification for another three years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher is intended for appointed first aiders working in medium- to high-risk environments, such as construction sites, factories, warehouses, and large offices. It’s ideal for individuals who need to keep their qualifications up to date and remain compliant with HSE requirements.
