What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also referred to as the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day training course designed for individuals whose FAW certificate is approaching expiration. By completing this First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Newcastle, you can extend your Level 3 FAW qualification for another three years.
Unlike the full 3-day course, this refresher programme focuses on revisiting key knowledge areas and gives you the chance to practise crucial skills under the guidance of a qualified assessor. It also ensures that you remain fully compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
✅ You can enrol on this course if your FAW certificate is still valid or if it has expired within the 28-day grace period.
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work renewal course is exclusively for learners who already possess a valid FAW certificate. It is recommended that you book your place before your current qualification expires to avoid the need to retake the full 3-day First Aid at Work course.
A 28-day grace period is available after the certificate expires. If your certificate has lapsed for more than 28 days, you will need to complete the full FAW course from the beginning.
To attend, please bring your current or recently expired FAW certificate as proof on the first day of the training.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
By taking part in the FAW Requalification in Newcastle, you will revisit the entire First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring that your knowledge is current and that your certificate remains valid. Throughout the 2-day course, you will have the chance to practise the essential skills that every workplace first aider should master.
- Understanding first aider responsibilities and infection control
- Scene surveys and casualty assessment
- Adult CPR and AED practice
- Recovery position and seizure management
- First aid for choking and severe bleeding
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Managing fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Care for eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis with auto-injectors
- Responding to heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher in Newcastle is assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, trainer observation, and a brief multiple-choice test. This ensures that you are confident in applying the skills you've refreshed throughout the course.
Upon successful completion, you will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for another three years, fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
The annual refresher is often confused with the FAW Requalification. The annual refresher is a short course designed to help you practise your skills each year. While useful, it does not renew your certificate.
If your certificate is expiring, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only course that officially renews your First Aid at Work qualification for three years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher course is designed for appointed first aiders working in medium- to high-risk environments, such as construction sites, factories, warehouses, and large offices. It is specifically for those who need to keep their qualification up to date and remain compliant with HSE regulations.
