What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also referred to as the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day training course designed for individuals whose FAW certification is approaching expiration. By completing the First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Kingston, you can extend your Level 3 FAW qualification for an additional three years.
Unlike the full three-day course, this refresher focuses on refreshing your skills and knowledge, allowing you to practice key techniques under the guidance of a qualified assessor. It ensures you stay fully compliant with the latest Health and Safety Executive (HSE) standards.
✅ This course is available to anyone holding a valid FAW certificate or within the 28-day grace period following its expiration.
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day First Aid at Work requalification course is exclusive to those who already hold a valid FAW certificate. It’s recommended to book your training in advance, prior to the expiration of your current qualification, to avoid having to retake the full 3-day FAW course.
A 28-day grace period is available once your certificate expires. If you miss this period, you’ll need to take the full FAW course again.
On the first day of the course, be sure to bring proof of your current or recently expired FAW certificate.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
By enrolling in the FAW Requalification in Kingston, you will revisit the full First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring your knowledge is updated and your certification stays valid. Over the course of two days, you’ll refine the essential skills that every workplace first aider needs to know.
- Understanding the role and responsibilities of a first aider and infection control
- Conducting scene surveys and assessing casualties
- Practising adult CPR and using AEDs
- Learning the recovery position and managing seizures
- Administering first aid for choking and severe bleeding
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and minor injuries
- Managing fractures, head injuries, spinal injuries, and chest injuries
- Addressing eye injuries and suspected poisoning
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis with the use of auto-injectors
- Responding to medical emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
Assessment & Certification
The FAW Refresher in Kingston is assessed through a combination of practical exercises, trainer observation, and a short multiple-choice test. This ensures you can confidently apply the skills you’ve refreshed throughout the course.
Upon successful completion, you will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for another three years, and fully accredited by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
Many confuse the annual refresher with the First Aid at Work Requalification. While the annual refresher helps you practice your skills once a year, it doesn’t renew your certificate.
If your FAW certificate is about to expire, you must complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This is the only course that officially renews your First Aid at Work qualification for a further three years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher course is designed for first aiders working in medium- to high-risk environments, such as construction sites, factories, warehouses, and large offices. It’s essential for those who need to maintain their certification and remain compliant with HSE standards.
