What Is the First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification)?
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher, also referred to as the FAW Requalification, is a 2-day course designed for individuals whose FAW certificate is approaching its expiration date. By completing this First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Morpeth, you will renew your Level 3 FAW qualification for an additional three years.
Unlike the comprehensive three-day programme, this refresher is focused on updating your knowledge and offering a hands-on opportunity to refine essential skills with an assessor present. It ensures that you stay fully compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines.
✅ You can take this course if your FAW certificate is still valid or if it is within the 28-day grace period after expiry.
Eligibility & When to Book
This 2-day renewal course is available to individuals who hold a valid FAW certificate. It’s recommended that you book your place ahead of time to ensure that your qualification remains valid and avoid having to retake the full 3-day First Aid at Work course.
If your certificate has expired beyond the 28-day grace period, you will need to start the full FAW course again.
Make sure to bring your current or recently expired FAW certificate on the first day of the course to gain entry.
What Will You Refresh/Practise During the Course?
During the FAW Requalification in Morpeth, you will revisit the entire First Aid at Work syllabus, ensuring your skills and knowledge are current. Over the course of two days, you will refine the essential techniques every workplace first aider should know.
- First aider responsibilities and infection control practices
- Scene assessment and casualty evaluation
- Adult CPR and AED training
- Recovery position and managing seizures
- First aid for choking and severe bleeding
- Treating shock, burns, scalds, and minor wounds
- Managing fractures, head, spinal, and chest injuries
- Caring for eye injuries and addressing poisoning
- Recognising and treating anaphylaxis with auto-injectors
- Responding to heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes emergencies
Assessment & Certification
The First Aid at Work Refresher in Morpeth is assessed through a combination of practical exercises, trainer evaluations, and a brief multiple-choice exam. This method ensures you are confident in applying the refreshed skills gained throughout the course.
Upon successful completion, you will receive a renewed Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for another three years, and fully recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Annual Refresher vs This 2-Day FAW Requalification
Many people confuse the annual refresher with the First Aid at Work Requalification. The annual refresher is a shorter course designed to help you practice your skills each year, but it does not renew your certificate.
If your certificate is approaching expiration, you will need to complete the 2-day FAW Refresher (Requalification) course. This course is the only one that officially extends your First Aid at Work certification for another three years.
Who Is the Course For?
This 2-day FAW Refresher course is tailored for designated first aiders in medium to high-risk workplaces, including construction sites, warehouses, factories, and large offices. It is intended for individuals who need to ensure their qualification stays current and meets HSE compliance standards.
