Upon completing this course, you will have a nationally recognised qualification that demonstrates your expertise in decorative finishing and enhances your career prospects in the construction industry.
The Level 3 Diploma in Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting is designed for individuals already working in the painting or decorating industry. However, for those who are not currently employed, it’s highly recommended that they first complete Level 2 in Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting to gain practical experience as a painter.
There are seven mandatory units you must pass to achieve this qualification. Additionally, you must choose two optional units, one from Group A and another from Group B. These optional units will provide a greater level of flexibility, allowing you to focus on specific areas of interest or expertise.
Throughout the course, you will learn about various decorative finishing techniques, including paint application, wallpapering, and surface preparation. You will also gain a deep understanding of relevant health and safety regulations and learn how to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.
Those aiming to acquire a CSCS Gold Card and become a supervisor at the construction site.
Individuals who are currently employed as painters or decorators.
Those currently working in related fields, such as construction, engineering, manufacturing, or want to upgrade their skill set.
Apprentices or trainees who are starting their careers in the coating industry.
For this qualification, you must develop a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate that you have obtained all the relevant knowledge.
You may produce your portfolio of evidence in the form of the following:

Assignments/projects/reports
Professional discussion
Witness testimony
Candidate product
Worksheets
Record of oral and written questioning
Recognition of Prior Learning
Note that it's not necessarily a strict requirement to be already employed, but it's highly recommended because you'll be assessed while you're actually doing your job. That way, you'll get a more accurate evaluation of your skills and knowledge. An assessor will work with you to create a customised assessment plan that fits your preferences.
Upon completing all units of qualification, you will be awarded the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Decorative Finishing - Painting & Decorating (Construction). Additionally, you will receive a separate certificate for successfully completing all the units, along with the full title qualification.

The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting is for anyone who wants to learn the basics of the finishing industry. You don't need a lot of experience to take that course. However, the Level 3 Diploma in Decorative Finishing covers many other topics, such as health and safety in the workplace, painting procedures using rollers and brushes, and cleaning and preparing surfaces. In addition to these core skills, two optional units allow you to specialise in decorative finishing. With 17 different options to choose from, you can pick the area that you're most interested in mastering. This advanced qualification can open up a lot of job opportunities for you.
To apply for a CSCS Gold Card or to become a supervisor at a construction site, you need to carry an NVQ Level 3 diploma plus a valid CITB certificate. The qualification gets you a step closer to acquiring a CSCS Gold Card.
This qualification will remain valid throughout your lifetime without the need for refresher courses, hence saving you valuable time and money.
To earn certification for this qualification, you must pass nine units. Seven of these units are compulsory, which means you must pass all of them. Additionally, there are seventeen optional units divided into two groups: Group A and Group B. You must complete one unit from each group, with Group A containing two units and Group B containing fifteen.
