The CSCS Gold Card is intended for supervisors on a construction site or those with an advanced level of skillset in occupations such as plumbing, bricklaying, roof installing, etc.

This blog post will explain what a CSCS Gold Card (Supervisor) is, types of CSCS Gold Cards, the requirements of getting this card, the costs associated, as well as the renewal process. It covers everything you need to know to start your career in construction and lead your way in.

What is a CSCS Gold Card (Supervisor)?

The CSCS Gold Card indicates that you are qualified to oversee construction workers. Your job is to ensure that safe practices are followed, and each worker is performing their tasks. Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) certifies people based on their academic and hands-on knowledge. While having a CSCS card isn’t a legal requirement to enter a construction site, it’s highly recommended. That’s because having a CSCS Card gives you an advantage over those who don’t, resulting in more job opportunities. So, getting a CSCS card is definitely a smart move. You can check n90 consultants for career advice Obtaining a CSCS Gold Card involves a 3-step process – passing the qualification, taking the relevant CITB test, and applying for the card.

CSCS Gold Card Test

Once you’ve completed your qualification, the next step in getting the CSCS Gold Card is passing the CITB Health, Safety, and Environment test.

This test comes in three types:

  1. Operatives
  2. Specialists
  3. Managers and professionals (MAP)

If you’re going for the supervisor card, the CITB specialists test should be your target. On the other hand, if you’re looking to get the advanced craft card, the CITB operatives test is the one you need.

Can You Apply for a CSCS Gold with SSSTS Certification?

The Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) is meant for supervisors to learn about safety on construction sites. But, it’s not a requirement for getting a CSCS Gold Card.

However, some employers might ask for it when you’re applying for a site supervisor job. It’s a 2-day course that can make you more valuable to employers and improve your chances of getting hired.

How Much Does a CSCS Gold Card Cost?

Generally, going for a Level 3 or 4 NVQ in construction could cost you anywhere from £300 to £1,000. Booking a CITB test will set you back an extra £22.50, and when you’re applying for the card itself, there’s a fee of £36.

Adding all of these costs would give you a rough estimate of how much it would cost you to get a CSCS card.

The good news is, there’s a different path you can take to save some cash – applying for CITB grants. It’s worth checking if you qualify for any grants, so you might just get some financial help from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).

You can start the renewal process of a CSCS Gold Card six months before your card expires, and you’ve got another six months after it expires. That gives you loads of time to make the most of your still-valid card.
