CPCS stands for Construction Plant Competence Scheme, which is the UK's national scheme for certifying the skills and competencies of plant operators. CPCS certification is recognised throughout the construction industry and provides a standardised, high-quality system for ensuring the competency of plant operators.
The CITB test is a computer-based test designed to assess a plant operator's knowledge and understanding of health and safety regulations and procedures, operating techniques, and other relevant topics. The test is required for CPCS certification.
To pass the CITB test, a plant operator must achieve a minimum score of 45 out of 50 questions or score 90% at least.
The CPCS theory test assesses your knowledge of the following topics:
The principles of plant operation
The safe use of plant machinery
The maintenance and repair of plant machinery
Health and safety in the workplace
The CPCS practical test assesses a plant operator's practical skills and competence in operating plant machinery. It involves demonstrating the safe and effective operation of the machinery in a controlled environment.
The Blue CPCS Card is valid for five years from the date of issue. After this period, the card must be renewed by retaking the relevant CITB test and practical assessments.
