The NVQ Level 2 in Plastering is a nationally recognised qualification for on-site plasterers. It proves your ability to carry out plastering work safely, correctly, and to a professional standard.
This work-based diploma is designed around your real job, so there’s no need to stop working - you’ll complete the qualification by building a portfolio of evidence from your site.
This qualification is ideal for plasterers who are already working on-site but don’t yet have a formal qualification.
If you’re applying plaster finishes, repairing damaged surfaces, or working on domestic or commercial projects, this NVQ helps you prove your skills and get officially recognised.
What you’ll cover in this NVQ depends on the type of plastering work you do day to day.
You’ll choose from one of the following pathways based on your area of expertise:
Each pathway includes specialist units tailored to that type of plastering work. However, all learners will also complete core units covering:
🛠️ Note: Your assessor will help you choose the right pathway based on your current role and responsibilities.
The Level 2 Diploma in Plastering is assessed entirely through the work you do on-site. You’ll complete the qualification by building a portfolio of evidence reflecting your daily plastering tasks.
After you enrol, your assessor will book an induction session to help you get started.

You’ll complete this qualification by gathering evidence from the plastering work you already do on-site. The focus is on proving your competence through real jobs.
There’s no fixed duration for this plastering NVQ - how quickly you finish depends on how actively you collect and submit your on-site evidence. You set the pace.
Some learners complete the qualification in just a few weeks, while others take longer, depending on their workload, availability, and evidence gathering.
Your assessor will work with you to set manageable goals, check your progress regularly, and keep things moving forward. While you’ll have up to 12 months to finish, most learners complete the NVQ in about 3–4 weeks.
To enrol, you must already be working in a plastering role - either on domestic or commercial building sites. This NVQ isn’t suitable for complete beginners, as it’s based on the practical tasks you perform at work.
You should already be confident with tasks like preparing surfaces, applying plaster or render, and producing smooth finishes. Since there are no classroom sessions or written exams, the qualification focuses entirely on your current hands-on experience.
When you successfully complete the course, you’ll be awarded the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plastering (Construction). This is a nationally recognised qualification that validates your skills as a competent plasterer. With this NVQ, you’ll also be eligible to apply for the Blue CSCS Skilled Worker Card.
After completing this NVQ, you can progress to a Level 3 NVQ in Plastering, which is ideal if you're aiming to take on more responsibility, such as supervising teams or moving into more senior roles.
The Level 3 also opens the door to applying for the CSCS Gold Skilled Worker Card, a recognised credential for advanced plasterers.
This qualification recognises the skills you already use on-site and gives you the credentials to unlock better roles, site access, and long-term career growth in plastering.
Yes, this is a flexible, work-based qualification you can complete entirely around your existing plastering job. After enrolling, you'll get access to our online portal where you can upload site evidence, complete short written tasks, and message your assessor directly.
There’s no need to attend classes or stick to a fixed schedule - everything is completed through your day-to-day on-site work.
