What is the NVQ Level 2 Plastering?

The NVQ Level 2 in Plastering is a nationally recognised qualification for on-site plasterers. It proves your ability to carry out plastering work safely, correctly, and to a professional standard.

This work-based diploma is designed around your real job, so there’s no need to stop working - you’ll complete the qualification by building a portfolio of evidence from your site.

Who Should Do the NVQ Level 2 in Plastering?

This qualification is ideal for plasterers who are already working on-site but don’t yet have a formal qualification.

If you’re applying plaster finishes, repairing damaged surfaces, or working on domestic or commercial projects, this NVQ helps you prove your skills and get officially recognised.

What’s Covered in this NVQ?

What you’ll cover in this NVQ depends on the type of plastering work you do day to day.

You’ll choose from one of the following pathways based on your area of expertise:

  • Pathway 1 – Solid Plastering
  • Pathway 2 – Fibrous Plastering
  • Pathway 3 – Heritage Plastering (Solid)
  • Pathway 4 – Heritage Plastering (Fibrous)

Each pathway includes specialist units tailored to that type of plastering work. However, all learners will also complete core units covering:

  • Health and safety on-site
  • Productive working practices
  • Handling and storing plastering materials

🛠️ Note: Your assessor will help you choose the right pathway based on your current role and responsibilities.

How Do I Complete this NVQ in Plastering?

The Level 2 Diploma in Plastering is assessed entirely through the work you do on-site. You’ll complete the qualification by building a portfolio of evidence reflecting your daily plastering tasks.

After you enrol, your assessor will book an induction session to help you get started.

During this session, they’ll:

  • Set up your access to our online learner platform
  • Show you how to upload evidence and track your progress
  • Explain how your portfolio will be assessed
💻 You won’t need to sit any exams or attend training days to complete this plastering NVQ. Simply document the work you’re already doing on-site — then upload it through our learner portal at your own pace.

There’s no fixed duration for this plastering NVQ - how quickly you finish depends on how actively you collect and submit your on-site evidence. You set the pace.

Some learners complete the qualification in just a few weeks, while others take longer, depending on their workload, availability, and evidence gathering.

Your assessor will work with you to set manageable goals, check your progress regularly, and keep things moving forward. While you’ll have up to 12 months to finish, most learners complete the NVQ in about 3–4 weeks.
