Previously known as the SIA Top Up Training, the SIA Door Supervisor Refresher Course is required for anyone renewing their SIA Door Supervisor Licence.

Updated in October 2024, this two-day course includes new content on effective search procedures, safeguarding vulnerable individuals, handling terror threats, responding to spiking incidents, and updated physical intervention techniques.

Who Needs to Complete the Door Supervisor Refresher Course?

If you’re renewing your Door Supervisor licence after October 2024, this course is mandatory for you. Even if you’ve previously completed the old SIA Top Up Training, you must take this updated course, which now includes important new updates.

Is a First Aid Course Required Before Taking the New SIA Top-Up Training?

The first aid requirements for your SIA Refresher course remain unchanged. If you already have a first aid certificate, ensure it is valid for at least 12 months from your course dates.

If you need first aid training, simply choose the SIA Refresher course package that includes it—no need to book separately.

What are the Entry Requirements for this Course?

To be eligible for the new SIA Refresher course, you must be at least 18 years old and have completed either the full Door Supervisor course or the older SIA Top-Up course within the last three years.

You also need a valid first aid certificate—if you don’t have one, be sure to book a package that includes it.

Additionally, mandatory distance learning must be completed before attending your course. Full details will be provided in your booking confirmation email.

How Many Exams Are There in the New SIA Top-Up Training?

On the SIA Refresher Course, you will complete a practical assessment on searching and physical intervention, which will be assessed by your trainer. Additionally, you will sit two multiple-choice exams, one for each unit:

  • Unit 1: Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry (Refresher) – 35 questions in 55 minutes, with a 71% pass mark (25 correct answers required).
  • Unit 2: Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry (Refresher) – 30 questions in 45 minutes, with an 80% pass mark (24 correct answers required).

I booked my training through Hurak but I got my SIA training at Read Training. The trainers were awesome and I did got the required treatment and training as I was told. Their service was good and I would love to do my CCTV training with them in the future.
